Wishing Tiger Families a Safe and Happy Holiday
Our 2021-2022 campus theme has been EMBRACE THE NOISE! And, I am happy to report that we made lots of "noise" meeting our goal of establishing a love of learning and fostering a collaborative environment.
I feel greatly blessed to have had the opportunity to roll out the “welcome mat” once again to our many visitors and volunteers. It has been very heartwarming to have families sharing lunch with Tigers in our Tigers’ Den, to see our WatchDOGS return to the campus, to welcome back our PALS and Literacy Partners, and to watch our families experience our Tigers’ successes through the many campus events during this past school year.
West Cypress Hills Elementary has had a dedicated team of educators who worked diligently to provide a safe, collaborative, and successful learning community. I am so blessed to work alongside such an outstanding group of educators.
I appreciate the generosity of our PTO and our many community partners who have supported us throughout this school year. The partnership between our community and school is what makes West Cypress Hill such a special place to work and learn.
To our rising 6th graders, I bid a fond farewell. This group of students were kindergarteners when I started at WCHE. As they move on to middle school, so does a piece of my heart. I am going to miss seeing their smiling faces in the hallways. I wish each of them great success as they continue their journey.
I am blessed and thankful to have been a part of the West Cypress Hills community, and I am so very proud to have served as your Principal for the 2021-22 school year.
I wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend and a fantastic summer break!
With warmest regards,
Melanie Beninga

Once a Tiger.....Always a Tiger!
We have mixed emotions about seeing our Tiger 5th Graders moving on to middle school. We hate to see them leave us. At the same time, we are so proud of them and happy to see that they have completed a successful year of learning and are being promoted to 6th Grade.
We plan to honor our Tiger 5th Grade on Friday, May 27, and make their day a happy and memorable day through the following events:
7:20 - 7:50 .........Pictures and fun in their classrooms (students only)
7:50 - 8:15 .........5th Grade breakfast in the 5th Grade neighborhood (students only)
8:15....................Parents welcome to enter the Tigers' Den (Cafeteria)
8:15 - 9:00 .........Activities in their classrooms (students only)
9:00 ...................5th Graders arrive in the Tigers' Den (Cafeteria) for promotion ceremony
9:15 - 9:20..........Mrs. Beninga's welcome and opening remarks

10:35 - 10:40......The Big Send-Off!

At the end of the promotion ceremony, guests will make their way to our playground field/track. While 5th Grade Tigers walk the halls of the school one last time to the cheers of all of our other Tigers, parents are invited to prepare to cheer the 5th Grade Tigers as they end our celebration by walking the track. Parents are welcome to snap photos, wave signs, and cheer. When the 5th Grade Tigers complete their final stroll of the track, students and parents are invited to take photos on our playground with friends and family.
May 27 is an early release day. All Tigers are dismissed at 1:00 pm that day. However, if you wish to sign your Tiger(s) out early, please complete our sign out form at Reception and drop it off as you depart. Please complete this form to let us know your plans for our 5th Grade Tigers' promotion day.
Parking
When visiting West Cypress Hills Elementary, please park in one of our parking lots. If the lots are full, parallel parking is permitted on Cypress Ranch Boulevard alongside the curb. When parking on the street, please be mindful not to block driveways and intersections, and please do not park on any grassy areas or medians. Please help us to avoid damaging the neighborhood sprinkler system by keeping your wheels on pavement.
Avoid the lines!
If you have already had your photo ID scanned into our Raptor security system some time this school year, we recommend that you RSVP to attend our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony. We are happy to prepare your badge in advance so that you can spend more time doing fun things instead of waiting in line for a security badge.
All adult visitors must obtain a security badge in order to enter the building. Those unable to RSVP will need to have a photo ID with them so that a security badge can be prepared for them in our Reception area. Be sure to arrive early and bring your photo ID so that you won't miss any of the fun!
Pick up your Belongings!
Please be sure your Tiger takes home ALL of his/her belongings! Our Lost & Found has "found" lots of really nice clothing, water bottles, lunch boxes, and hats. Please check our Lost & Found for your belongings and make sure your Tiger also takes home all of his/her supplies and belongings from the classroom desk and cubby. Unclaimed belongings will be donated June 1.
Any medication left in care of Nurse Kate during the school year must be picked up by the parent/guardian by 1 pm on Friday, May 27. Medication not picked up by 1 pm May 27 will be discarded.
School is Dismissed at 1 pm on Friday, May 27!
The last day of school is an early release day. Students are dismissed at 1 pm.
There is no Extended Care provided on Friday, May 27. If your Tiger(s) would normally report to Extended Care at the end of the school day, please be sure to update SMART Tag to let us know how your Tiger(s) will be going home at 1 pm.
Happy Summer!
Dear Parents/Guardians of Tiger 5th Graders
If your child receives updated immunizations at his/her 11-year-old well check, please turn the record in to me. I will then be able to make sure that the immunization record is as up to date as possible before he/she is promoted to middle school.
There are 3 vaccines recommended for preteens. At 11-12 years old, your preteen should receive vaccines to protect them from the following diseases:
- Meningococcal disease (MenACWY) (one dose)
- HPV (two doses)
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough (pertussis) (Tdap) (one dose)
Please remember that you are welcome to contact me if you have questions concerning immunizations.
Warmest regards,
Kate Chapman, RN
Pick up Student Medication by 1 pm Friday, May 27!
If you left medication for your Tiger(s) with Nurse Kate during the school year, please be sure to stop by the Clinic to pick it up by 1 pm on Friday, May 27.
We are required to discard any medication left at the school at the end of the school year. Therefore, any medication not picked up by 1 pm on the last day of school must be discarded.
The WCHE Tigers hosted a reception May 19 to thank our Literacy Partner volunteers for their service this year. Our Literacy Partners help us with our reading and comprehension skills.
