Introduction
Dragon Dictation
Dragon Dictation is a free, easy to use voice recognition application for the Ipad. It allows users to speak into the microphone to instantly create their text in written form. It is an excellent assistive technology tool for students with graphomotor difficulties and/or learning disabilities in expressive writing. Students can email their work to themselves or to a teacher to be re-opened in a word processing program.
WordQ
WordQ is a software program that operates with most word processing programs. It opens as a miniature tool bar with four specific functions: Read, Speech, Words, Options. The Word prediction includes a drop down list of vocabulary that students may choose from when they have trouble spelling a word correctly or simply picking the best word choice. The Read function provides spoken feedback by repeating words or entire phrases selected by the student. This allows the student to check that his/her work makes sense and has no grammatical error.
IEarnedThat
This app. is an excellent motivator for behavioural students who need repeated reinforcement to stay on task. It provides auditory praise, a chance to notify friends and family of success, and an extrinsic motivator. When students complete a required task or expectation they receive a puzzle piece for a picture of their reward. When all puzzle pieces are collected, they receieve the reward.
