Note from Mrs. Shimek

Dear SBMS Families,

What a great week we had at SB Middle School! Next week is a short week due to Thanksgiving. We do not have school Thursday or Friday.

Have a great weekend!

Your Partner in Education,

Ashley Shimek

Native American Heritage Month

November is Native American Heritage Month. This month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, or histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Please help celebrate the month of November by wearing your moccasins, ribbon shirts and skirts, or traditional clothing to celebrate your indigenous history and culture.

Ask your student about what they have been learning this month!

Our middle school team will begin notifying parents/guardians when their student's class attendance becomes concerning. Using our student handbook as a guide, we will be reaching out when/if:

- students have more than 5 unexcused or excused absences

- students have 10 or more unexcused tardies

- students are absent 10 days in a row or 15 days total

Our primary goal in initiating these conversations is to ensure we're on the same page and identify possible areas of support. Please let us know if you have any questions in the meantime!

MREs - Science Survey from Mrs. Petz!

Our science classes are investigating MREs as part of our unit on using chemical reactions to design solutions to a problem. We would appreciate any feedback you can give on this survey that will help us in our planning and design process.

MS and HS basketball needs your help! Can you volunteer to take tickets for an hour at a MS or HS basketball game this fall/winter? Your volunteer time will generate a donation from SBPS to Sports Boosters. You will also receive a free item from concessions and free entry into the next game! Link is below.

This link will allow you to sign-up for Gate Worker slots during BBALL season this winter!

The school encourages students to attend as many school events held after school as possible, without interfering with their school work and home activities. Enthusiastic spectators help to build school spirit and encourage those students who are participating in the event.

However, in order to ensure that students attending evening events as nonparticipants are properly safe-guarded, it is strongly advised that all students be accompanied by a parent or adult chaperone when they attend the event. Students under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or adult chaperone to attend school events. The School will not be able to supervise unaccompanied students nor will it be responsible for students who arrive without an adult chaperone.

The school will continue to provide adequate supervision for all students who are participants in a School activity. Students must comply with the Code of Conduct at school events, regardless of the location.

Winter Follies

Dear Suttons Bay Families,

We are so excited to extend an invitation to our Winter Concert, this is going to be a very exciting event with musical performances from our after school choir/musical group, select High School students, Middle School Performance Arts class, and Elementary students. We want you to have the date and times of the concert now so that you can plan which performances you would like to attend. Because there is limited space in the Auditorium, we ask that you try and attend just one of the performances so that as many families as possible can attend. Any parents, grandparents, family members, or friends that can attend the afternoon concert are encouraged to do so as there will likely be more space available.

December 15th Day 2pm & Evening 7pm Performance

At Suttons Bay Auditorium

We look forward to seeing you at the show!

We're providing lots of food and we'll have games as well in the LIFT room. We will not require paperwork to be completed for this meal BUT - it is not an allergy-friendly meal so if there are students with allergies [especially those that are severe] we're planning to mark dishes with potential allergens. See Flyer Above!

The holidays are upon us ! This week at LIFT we celebrated their arrival by baking bread and having a good old-fashioned snowball fight.

There will be no LIFT on Wednesday next week so that everyone can get an early start on their holiday break, but Tuesday we hope you'll join us as we celebrate LIFTSGIVING with loads of fun, friends and food.

Parents, please note that this is not an allergy-friendly meal. Permission forms are not required for students to join the meal, but if your student is still needing one on file to join us on a regular basis, remember to fill it out here !

Middle School Robotics Opportunity

Are you interested in helping to run an after school robotics program for our middle school students? We are still looking for extra volunteers! If so, please reach out to Mrs. Petz at for more information.
