SCSD hires new principals/directors for 2022-23 school year

The City of St. Charles School District is excited to announce the hirings of four new principals/directors, effective July 1, 2022.

Dr. Ted Happel has been selected to serve as principal of St. Charles High School. Dr. Happel currently serves as the assistant principal of St. Charles High School, a role he has occupied since 2010. Prior to his current role, Dr. Happel served as an English teacher at St. Charles West from 2002-10.

Brett Kobernus has been selected to serve as director of the Success Campus. Kobernus currently serves as the assistant principal of Hardin Middle School, a role he has occupied since 2019. Prior to his current role, Kobernus served as a math teacher at Hardin from 2018-19.

Tiffanie Worland has been selected to serve as principal of Monroe Elementary. Worland currently serves as the assistant principal at both Monroe and Harris Elementary, a role she has occupied since 2018. Prior to her current role, Worland served as a 6th-grade math teacher at Jefferson Intermediate School from 2013-18.

Dr. Ann Westbrook has been selected to serve as director of early childhood education. Dr. Westbrook currently serves as the director of early childhood at the Mehlville School District, a role she has occupied since 2012. Prior to her current role, Dr. Westbrook served as a kindergarten teacher at Oakville Elementary School from 2003-2012.

SCSD SCIENTISTS SHOW OFF THEIR EXPERIMENTS AT FAIR

On Thursday, January 13th, SCSD held its annual Science Fair at SCW. Students from across the district showed off the results of their experiments that were weeks or even months in the making!

Thank you to all our participating students for making this an amazing annual event and congratulations to our winners. Winners for each category (Biology, Physical Science, Consumer Science, Earth/Environmental Science) and grade level are eligible for the tri-county fair in March!

JEFFERSON JAGUARS COMPETE IN FIRST LEGO LEAGUE QUALIFIER

The Jefferson Jaguars sent two teams to compete in the annual FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Robotics Qualifier competition on Saturday, December 4th at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne school in Florissant, MO. The teams competed in three separate categories:

robotic game- in which students had to code a robot to complete various tasks,
innovation challenges- in which students had to come up with a new idea in which robotics can assist with the future of transportation and shipping, and finally
providing a detailed explanation on how and why they built their robot in the manner that they did.

The students competing were Lilith Ellison, Gabe Hardy, Rylee Maples, Aiden Wright-Murillo, Alexa Branson, Sam Jones, Nolan Kennedy,Diab Yasin, Sishir Mulpuru, Elina Buck, Jillian Irvie, Roewan Snow and Kate Nolan. The coaches of the Lego teams at Jefferson are Andrew Mills and Jason Trout.

Thank you to all our team members and coaches for their efforts and representing Jefferson well! We also want to thank Ranken Technical College for sponsoring our teams and paying the registration fees for our competition.

SCSD 4TH GRADERS COMPETE IN FIRST LEGO LEAGUE EVENT

Congratulations to the Bobcat Builders and Harris Hawks for successfully completing their FIRST LEGO League Challenge seasons. Ten fourth-grade students from both Blackhurst Elementary School and Harris Elementary School gained real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program. These students learned that what they discovered was more important than winning a competition.

SCSD high schoolers earn Adobe certifications

Congratulations to our SCSD high schoolers who earned their Adobe Certified Professional credentials this school year!

These 3-year certifications demonstrate that students understand critical skills within the program and show employers that they possess knowledgeable talent. Adobe Certified Professional exams reflect collaboration with industry experts, research on workplace demands, and rigorous evaluation.

SCW Dance 'n' Drill win regionals

Congratulations to the SCW Dance 'n' Drill team on placing 1st in Prop, 4th in Jazz, and having all their soloist routines placed.

Great job by our regional champions!

SCHS' Coach Meeker will enter STL Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Coach Charlie Meeker on being nominated to the Greater STL Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame! Coach Meeker is a staple of the SCSD community and his positive impact and influence continue to affect our students and staff.

Null, LU celebrate Reading Club

Last month, Lindenwood Education and Null Elementary students celebrate the completion of Reading Club, an afterschool literacy program that served 28 students at Null Elementary. LU students met with and tutored the students twice a week to help improve their reading skills.

To commemorate the last day of the club, the whole school received a Lindenwood “send-off”, complete with Lindenwood Cheer Squad members and even a visit from mascot Leo the Lion! Reading Club members could choose books as a semester-end gift.

Thank you to LU for this wonderful partnership and positive impact on our students!

Coverdell receives book donation

Thanks to Susie Pundmann and St. Charles Christian Church for their donation of 31 cases of books to Coverdell students. Their generosity made it possible for every student to receive at least one brand new book!

We are so appreciative of our supportive community partnerships!

SCSD Parents as Teachers Developmental Screenings

The City of Saint Charles School District's Parents As Teachers program welcomes all district families to participate in a developmental screening of children birth to age 3 this spring.

2022-23 SCC CAPS Enrollment

Sophomore and Junior Students (and Parents/Guardians):

CAPS offers three different programs, all of which provide relevant, hands-on experiential learning in their respective fields. CAPS students take courses at their home high school , and the rest of the day, they are at their CAPS program (out in the community). CAPS Students receive 3.0 high school credits per year toward graduation for their CAPS class, and CAPS students can also earn college credit through Lindenwood University.

If you still aren't sure if CAPS is a good fit for you, I encourage you to read the newsletter about the kinds of things each program is doing. CAPS is allowing students to shadow their programs.
