Art: Cherry Blossoms
8th grade Art students are working on a Japanese culture segment of their Cultural Symbolism in Advertising Unit. They learned about the traditions of Japan as well as current challenges- like an aging population and decline in the birth rate- that the country is facing and what the younger generation plans to do about these challenges. The enjoyment of springtime Cherry Blossom- or "Sakura" season- in Japan is a major pastime as well as big business in Japan. The Haiku poems that accompany the hand-painted cherry blossoms show student learning and reflection about these aspects of Japanese culture.

Take a look at some of the fantastic Service As Action projects our students have been doing!

Congratulations to the following students for their excellent projects! They will be moving on to the District Science Fair on Saturday, January 21st

IB Grades
As we get closer to the end of Semester 1, you will see MYP grades on Connect that have been labeled “Crit [descriptor]". This is an MYP assessment grade that shows a student's current level of learning and understanding of the MYP Subject Criterion.
For a more detailed explanation on how MYP grades are different than traditional grades, please read our MYP Grades Newsletter.
