Dear Everitt Families:
It has been such a joy to have our students back to learning in-person. Everitt sounds like a school again, with sounds of joy and engagement and friendship and connection filling our hallways and classrooms. A few highlights from this wonderful week of learning:
- Out at recess, I saw middle school students not looking at a phone or a computer screen. Instead, they were genuinely interacting with one another and running and playing in the sunshine.
- Mr. Gold's Social Studies class became the Supreme Court, where students both delivered and heard arguments about the Dred Scott case.
- Ms. Colonna's English classes had to craft a response to their classroom chairs going on strike! The Classroom Chairs Association walked off the job and sent a letter of demands, and students were asked to make a strong case for their return to duty.
As always, thank you for believing in the power of neighborhood schools to bring our communities together, and thank you for sharing your kids with us; it is our honor to serve them.

8th Grade Continuation
We plan to host a live, in-person continuation ceremony to celebrate our incredible 8th graders as they take an important step toward their future in the transition to high school. Those plans have been complicated by Jefferson County's move to "Yellow" on the COVID Dial. That means:
- If the county stays at risk level "Yellow," we have to limit outdoor gatherings to 175 participants. This means, we would host continuation live with the option for students to attend in-person or to attend remotely through a livestream and/or the recorded video at a different time. We would not be able to accomodate families in-person due to limits on the size of outdoor gatherings.
- If the county moves back to risk level "Blue," we can invite two family members per student to also attend in-person to maintain enough distance between families on our grounds. Families, of course, would also have the option to attend remotely through a livestream and/or the recorded video at a different time.
- As we get closer to the event, we will share our final plans and more detailed information.
For now, please "Save-the-Date" for Wednesday, May 26th from 6:30-8:00pm. Continuation will be held on the south side of the Everitt school building.

A Day Without Hate Wednesday, April 28th
A Day Without Hate is a student-led, grassroots organization that promotes nonviolence, respect, and unity within our schools. Help your child join his/her fellow students district wide to help end school violence and promote peace. By encouraging students to be tolerant, friendly, and kind, teaching them that there are non-violent solutions to problems, hopefully as a community, we can create a better world.
Everitt will be participating in A Day Without Hate by creating school wide activities for both Hybrid and Remote Learners.
Everitt Middle School
