Christmas Light Web-quest
By Bruce Graber
Hypothesis
- What is the effect of #of lights removed on #of lights lit.
- IV: number of bulbs removed DV: number of lights lit.
- If the Christmas lights are arranged in a parallel circuit then when 1 bulb bursts (is removed) the other bulbs will light up.
Observation 1
With parallel circuit the energy flows different ways through the frame.
Observation 2
When one light is removed the other 2 still light up with the same strength.
Hypothesis 2
If the Christmas lights are arranged in a series circuit then when 1 bulb bursts (is removed) the other bulbs will not light up.
Observation 3
With series circuit to equal the same brightness of the parallel circuit 2 batteries had to be added so it needed 3 batteries to function. The energy flows one way.
Observation 4
When one bulb went out they all went out as well.
Final Verdict
The parallel circuit is better to use. Because when one light went out the others still lit up. The light bulbs light up more with one battery then the series circuit. Series circuits are not good to use for Christmas lights.
