Quarter 3 TGAs
Math TGA, a Writing TGA, and a Writing Work Sample. Teacher Graded Assignments are worth 20% of your grade in Math and ELA. These TGAs are an opportunity for students to apply the skills they are learning in classes and lessons and for teachers to provide individualized feedback. It is vital that students complete these and turn them into Seesaw each quarter. See below for information on the 3rd quarter TGAs.

Students should be completing these lessons on their own, as they adapt to their level. It will become too difficult if someone is helping them.
Reading Eggs Requirements
First, students will take a placement test that needs to be taken on their own. Then, a reading map with games and activities will be created for them. Your student will need to work through their map daily.

What We're Doing
ELA
- Main Idea
- Summarization
- Inferencing
- Writing
- & so much more!
We will be reading so many great stories and books in your classes and OLS lessons. Be sure to keep your curriculum materials in a safe and accessible place so you are ready to use them in class.
It is so important to get into the habit of reading for at least 30 minutes every single day! If you don't already do this, start today! Find books on Big Universe through the OLS or at your local library. Learning coaches, click here for some tips to help your 3rd grader with reading.
Math
Some of the things we will focus on in math this year are:
- Multiplication
- Reading and writing numbers in different forms (standard, word, expanded, etc.)
- Solving real-world problems
- Fractions
- and so much more!
It will be essential to have a good foundation of fact fluency, so be sure to practice your addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts every day!
Dollar Tree stores are an economical place to find math flash cards. A great math activity is to make your own flash cards.
Practice spelling number words, like zero through nineteen, twenty through ninety, hundred, thousand, and million.
3rd-grade math tips: Here's how to help your student
- Discuss math class at home. Encourage your third-grader to talk about the math concepts that they are learning at school. Don’t just ask, “How was math today?”
- Model good math behavior. Speak positively about math and reward effort, rather than grades or ability.
- Talk through math problems. If your child is struggling with math problems, have them read each problem out loud slowly and carefully so your child can hear the problem.
- Highlight real-life math problems. Continue to find as many opportunities as possible to highlight math problems in real life.

Changes to Special Education Class Connects
We pride ourselves in being able to provide a schooling environment for all students to learn and grow. As we work to meet the needs of all students, we are implementing a few changes to how our class connect sessions are structured. Your student’s CC schedule may change slightly as teachers work to structure CCs to allow for more specific, individual instruction for students. This may mean that your student spends some time in a breakout room with individual practice specific to their needs for part of the CC session with the teacher available for questions and support. We have been working on this since we returned from Winter Break. It appears to be going well, so thank you for all your patience as we make this change.

Tips & Tricks for a Successful School Year
- Class connect attendance is extremely important in addition to completing online coursework. Please prioritize attending class, including Morning Meeting, every day and email all teachers if you know you are going to be absent. Communicate with your homeroom teacher about any scheduling conflicts.
- Create a family schedule to stay on track with all students' class connects.
- Come to class prepared. Be sure to eat, use the restroom, do chores, etc. before or after class connects. Log in to class a few minutes early with your materials to be ready to start on time.
- All assignments require 80% mastery in order to be marked complete. Click here to watch a video showing how to retake an assessment. If you run out of attempts, contact your homeroom teacher.
- Watch recordings of any missed class connects. Click here to see how to access recordings.
- Clear out browser cache, cookies, and history daily to ensure that your computer runs smoothly with Newrow. Click here for instructions. Shut down your computer each night.
