We Are Hawks!

Week of September 28

Irons Family,

It's been another great week at Irons Jr. High! We ended the week with wins by all of our volleyball teams over Stockton and taking first place in the 7th grade girls cross country meet, great job ladies! I have also enjoyed visiting classrooms seeing our socially distanced new normal. Kids are smiling, as best I can tell by their eyes, engaged in questioning and discussions; school is sounding like school again! Thank you to our parents, students, and staff for working so diligently to make in-person school possible. I ask that we do not let our guard down as we get more and more comfortable at school. Please wear your mask, wash your hands often, and stay socially distant but together.

Parents, we have great news. Reads and Writes with Conroe ISD is an easy to use toolbar that makes documents, files, and web pages more accessible. It works across almost all platforms and devices and has been purchased to support ALL students in CISD with reading, writing, and online research. These tools will allow students to access digital curriculum in a way which makes content accessible to students based on individual abilities and learning styles, and will reduce many instructional obstacles. Please take a look at the attached link and videos to get your child started.

Parents, I am seeing an increase of late car riders in the morning. The Irons tardy bell rings at 8:50 and every minute counts. If you are 5 minutes late every day you will lose half a class of instructional time a week. Please drop off your children by 8:45 to avoid missing class time.

As always please let me know if something is not right. We are working to improve every day!

Change of Instructional Setting Due by 9/28/20

The 2nd Grading Period begins on October 13, 2020. Parents wishing to change their child’s instructional option Remote/Online to In-Person for the 2nd Grading Period should complete this google form no later than Monday, September 28, by 8 AM. This will allow us time to make needed adjustments to our social distancing plans.

If there has been no contact from a parent/guardian, no changes will be made to the student’s instructional method.

Parents can change their child's instructional placement election until September 28, 2020. If no changes are made by then, the election they are currently in will be their election for the remainder of the semester.

The Academy For Careers In Engineering And Science

Dear parents,

My name is Mike Papadimitriou (Dr. Pap), and I am the Headmaster at the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science (ACES) located on the Oak Ridge High School Campus. Students in the Oak Ridge, Grand Oaks, College Park and Woodlands feeder zones are eligible to apply for admission to the Academy at Oak Ridge (ACES) and/or the Academy of Science and Technology (AST) at College Park. Despite the name differences, both academies offer just about the same courses, and we have the same program requirements. The manner in which we fulfill these program requirements varies a bit between academies.

Our application deadline is mid-November. Junior High counselors and math/ science teachers will have applications in the near future. Applications are also available on our website. Submissions can be by mail, email, fax or in-person drop off.

For the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science, we do not require any additional testing other than the PSAT 8/9 that all CISD 8th graders take at their junior high schools. If your child is not able to take this test, we will use prior standardized test data already on file.

We have three 8th Grade Parent Information Zoom Nights scheduled:

For the most up to date grade information please access your parent or student access account.

Grades in Canvas are not official.

School Cash

We are so excited to start the new school year! We have missed being able to engage in person with our students and watch them as learning takes root.

As you know we have made several modifications to how we operate in order mitigate the risk of COVID-19. I want to assure you that the health and safety of your family and our staff is our highest priority.

Please Pay School Fees Online

As part of those modifications, we are asking you to use our online payment system to purchase school items when you can. Cash can play a significant role in virus transmission, and we are working toward following the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations to use contactless payments to mitigate virus spread.

Paying Online is Fast and Easy

Paying school fees online is fast and easy and can be done from any computer or smartphone. Getting setup up is three simple steps:

1. Create Your Profile: Go to and click on “Get Started Today”.

2. Confirm Your Email: Check your inbox for the email confirmation and click on the link inside. Sign in with your new login details.

3. Add a Student: Click “Add Student” and fill in the required fields with your child’s details.

Please encourage your child to protect themselves and those around them by wearing a mask and social distancing when possible. While you cannot control the actions of other students. We can all lead by example. I hope you will encourage your child to do just that.

Bus Transportation and Car Riders

Car rider line continues to be a work in progress, but we believe the following will help.

  • Pull forward in the line to close up space between cars
  • Stay in the right-hand lane until you have picked up your child.
  • Move to the left-hand lane to exit the drive.
  • Do not park and have your child run across traffic.
  • Please exit at a safe speed

We plan on moving the students toward the east end of the drive for pick up. Our hope is this will allow for more cars in the line. We ask for patience as we continue to make improvements. The good news is we have moved about 300 cars through the car rider line in about 20-25 minutes everyday this week.

Parents if you chose remote learning and decide to return to in person learning you must communicate the change with the campus first and then register for transportation again.

It can take 3-5 school days for bus transportation to become available.

For complete information on bus transportation, including bus numbers and stop times, please visit

As you plan for return to campus next week please discuss with your child the method of transportation they will ride home on the first day of school. Please double check that everyone is on the same page with transportation.

Student Covid-19 Screening

Irons family you are valued partners in our Roadmap to Reopening Plan. In addition to wearing cloth face coverings, social distancing, washing hands, and regular cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces, another essential element in helping slow the spread of COVID-19 at school is each parent’s commitment to screening their child daily for symptoms.

Parents are asked to keep any student exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 at home and to notify the campus at or 936-709-8500

Please review the information and be sure to keep your child at home if he/she is exhibiting any of the symptoms described.

Tips for Return to In-Person School

  1. Bring a water bottle with your name on it.
  2. Get your student ID from your 1st period Teacher if you have not done so. You will need it for lunch.
  3. Get plenty of rest and plan to be here on time. School Starts at 8:50
  4. Avoid car-pooling with other students unless necessary - wear face masks if social distancing cannot be achieved.
  5. Bring one or two masks with you to school. Gaiters are ok to wear but a cloth face mask is preferred.
  6. No outside deliveries for lunch.
  7. Wear your mask at all time
  8. Make this work - we want you to be in school as safely as possible - we can do all the planning in the world but we need you to help us pull it off.
