To Empower and Inspire Lifelong Learners In A Safe School Community
School Board Appreciation Week October 2-8
District Administrator Larry Palubicki presented the Board of Education with engraved cardinal travel coffee mugs and can koozies which were made by the Crandon High School students. The kind words and merchandise were much appreciated and the students did a great job on them.
Going Above Expectations
- Thank you Teegan Mouw for volunteering to clean up toilet paper after school.
- Thank you to Marissa Flannery who helped paint murals in the Elementary Art Room, this helped Mrs.Bradley with a smoother transition from English to Art.
- Thank you Bryan Schallock for cutting down some trees and cleaning up the brush at the school forest.
- Thank you to Beth Marvin for doing Bus Safety with our students.
Donations
- Thank you to Ethel Gnacinski for the donation of craft supplies to the 4k and general school supplies for the elementary students.
- We received one citizen comment for this month's board meeting, Russel Brownell has asked if we can move the citizen comment portion to the end of the agenda instead of the beginning. The board will review his suggestion and decide on the matter before next month's meeting.
- Melanie Wagoner commented on how well the Week In Review looks that is being published on Facebook. The Week In Review gives a summary of all the great things the Crandon Elementary and High School are doing in a weeks time and communicates it to the public. Thank you to the staff for getting that information and images to the coordinator of that.
- Administration gave updates which included Elementary Principal Tina Strong , High School Principal Josh Jaeger , Director of Pupil Services Kyle Barber and Director of Curriculum Ryan Ourada.
- A Behavior update was given by High School Principal Josh Jaeger, he provided the board with data that explained the behaviors in detail.
- Director of Curriculum Ryan Ourada updated the board on the SAIL 100 day plan. He went into great detail explaining the goals and how they are working towards achieving these goals.
- Kassondra Brownell represented the PTO and updated the board on the following items: New officers in place, Katie Kulinski - President, Melanie Wagoner- Vice President, Sammi Houle - Treasurer, Kassondra Brownell - Secretary and Tressa Votis and Sarah Bradley as our school representatives. She provided a recap on homecoming activities which included the amazing turnout for youth cheerleaders! Activities being planned are Pumpkin Carving, Christmas activities, Valentine dances and etc.
- Last month the board tabled the FCP track proposal until more information could be provided which included a written proposal with costs and maintenance. Thank you Stacy Karcz for compiling this information for the board members, it was reviewed. Due to the FCP tribal council not being present for the meeting to discuss this into detail, it has been tabled again until both boards are able to meet and discuss it further. We thanked them for their generosity and look forward to working with them on this proposal.
- The board approved adding Labor Day into the employee handbook as a paid holiday for support staff.
- The board approved Mary Peters and Theresa Marvin's retirements and thanked them for their service to the School District of Crandon.
- The board approved the Tuition Assistance Program, which will allow current staff members to pursue their education in teaching. There are stipulations within this program. For more information, please contact District Administrator Larry Palubicki.

Public Participation at Board Meetings
- Citizen Comments can be at the beginning or end of a board meeting, however there is no requirement to have citizen comments. However it allows transparency for the citizens with the board.
- Board of Education meetings are not meetings of or for the public, rather they are for the board of education and the public is allowed to attend.
- Citizen Comments should not be allowed to glorify or humiliate staff, staff is considered personnel and that is to only be discussed in closed sessions.
- Time limits can be set for citizen comments.
- The presiding officer should identify the procedures and inform speakers they are not immune from legal consequences.
- No action should be taken regarding issues from public comment, rather be deferred to a later meeting.
- Board members are not required to respond to public comment.
- Public comment should not be the first avenue for conflict resolution.
