Special Edition Newsletter

This edition of the MSHS Trojan Newsletter contains important information regarding the upcoming pre-registration for 2020-2021 school year.

Pre-Registration Advisement Schedule

MSHS Guidance Counselors will be meeting with CURRENT grade levels to provide academic advisement for 2020-2021 course selections.

Week of January 13 - - Current 8th Graders

Week of January 27 - - Current 11th Graders

Week of February 3 - - Current 10th Graders

Week of February 10 - - Current 9th Graders

Advisement begins with small groups in the MSHS Auditorium. Counselors will talk through course offerings, diploma pathways, credit checks, and answer any questions. Subsequently, students will meet with counselors in even smaller groups in the media labs to enter their course requests into the Chalkable/INOW computer system.

**Dates are tentative and subject to change**

Review the MSHS and MSCA Course Guides prior to pre-registration to be better informed of the courses available next school year.

Transition from INOW/Chalkable to PowerSchool

When the 2020-2021 school year opens, parents, students, and school personnel across Alabama will be working with a new Student Information System (SIS) called PowerSchool. Our current SIS - known recently as either INOW or Chalkable - will no longer be available after May 2020.

One obstacle that the transition to PowerSchool is presenting local school districts is the requirement to have the 2020-2021 master schedule completed by May 1st. In other words, the work that your school administration and counselors normally do during the summer months preparing class schedules for the fall semester MUST BE DONE by May 1st. Local schools will not have access to make course requests or schedule changes during the summer months. Between May 1st and August 1st, the statewide rollover to PowerSchool will occur (something that is outside the control of Muscle Shoals City Schools).

The rollover process to PowerSchool will demand that course requests and scheduling decisions on the part of students, parents, and school personnel be completed by March 13th so that the MSHS staff can prepare the master schedule by the statewide May 1st deadline.
