Is Puerto Rico Dying?
A Country With a Collapsing Government
A Commonwealth Going Bankrupt...
Puerto Rico became a commonwealth after the Spanish American War in 1898. Since then, the island has been a beautiful addition to the United States. However, recently the country has fallen on hard times. The government is broke. Islanders are leaving the island rapidly for better opportunities. Citizens are rebelling against the government. Poverty is at a record high. Without a solution, the commonwealth will collapse.
Puerto Rico Government vs. US Government
The Puerto Rico government is doing the best it can to improve the crisis. However the US government is trying to help. Officials in San Juan, as well as Washington, are unwavering towards a Federal Bailout. Needless to say, the White House is keeping a close watch on the situation...
El Morro
The famous fort is located at the tip of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Thousands visit the historic National Park annually to see the defense against Pirates of the Caribbean-style attacks.
Old San Juan Wall
This wall was built to protect the city, then named Puerto Rico (the names were switched at a later date.) This wall stands high above the water, sheltering the city from any attacks.
Puerto Rico Living
The living standard in Puerto Rico is very different from the US standard. Houses are condemned and falling apart. Due to the eight-year recession, there is no money to fix these buildings.
Is There a Solution?
"Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." - Napoleon Hill
The Puerto Rican government is determined to improve the problem. Unless a solution can be found, the island will fall apart. With the federal government shut down, people think there is no solution. Mr. Donahue said, "there's really no path."
Puerto Rico is a dying county. Without help, there is no hope.
