Our Kindergarten Newsletter
The season has switched to Fall but the weather doesn't seem to be cooperating! We are ready for some cooler temperatures. In the spirit of Fall, we are asking for your student to bring in something relating to Fall. For example, a pinecone, fallen leaves, acorns, a Fall book, etc. The books will be returned but the rest of the items will stay in the classroom to assist with our upcoming reading and writing units. Thank you for your help!
Reflections of Our Week
In math, we practiced unit 1 skills through games, technology, and application stations while small groups and one-on-one testing was taking place. In reading, we learned about using organization tools such as reading mats to help us read through all of our books. We also used pointers to help us match one word with one tap. Writer's Workshop included showing what we know about writing true stories. In Science, we are explored pushes and pulls - the forces of motion!
Our Week Ahead
Math: Next week we will finish up any unit 1 testing and begin Unit 2: Comparing Numbers. A parent letter will come home next week outlining the standards that will be covered in this unit.
Reading: Students will read like storybook readers using everything they have learned about old favorites. They will consider the feelings of characters and match their voices to how the characters feel.
Word Work: Letter I is our focus as we brainstorm words that begin with I. Rhyming, syllables, cvc words, and letter/picture match are some of the activities we focus on during word work time.
Writing: Students will learn how writers can be like scientists; observing information all around us. We will use our fall items brought in to prepare "collection boxes" to explore and write about over the next several weeks.
Science: Students will continue to obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to compare and describe different types of motion.
