Every CHILD loves Books!
The Mill Pond Parent Group Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon! The book fair is a fundraising event for MPPG and puts new books in the hands of our students, our teachers, and our library. Students will be shopping the fair during their scheduled Library period starting the week of February 10th. For specifics, click SCHEDULE. Families can shop the fair and enjoy a free Cookies and Cocoa Cafe on Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday, February 13th from 6:30-8pm. Make a purchase and be entered to win free books! Donate loose change/cash during the fair to support our students who are going to donate books to schools in need. Want to learn more about how you can sign up for an eWallet and avoid sending your child to school with cash? Check out our school's Scholastic homepage at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/millpondintermediatesch. Want to help at the fair? Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A054CAEA72FA20-2020. Social Emotional Learning at Mill Pond
A Human Knot is the Perfect Way to Practice our Social-Emotional Learning!
Health Week
Today marks our last day of health week. It was a first step to expanding our health curriculum at Mill Pond. The classes were interactive and resource-based covering a range of pertinent topics.
4th Grade: Healthy Practices and Disease Prevention
These two lessons were based on teaching students about the differences between communicable and non-communicable diseases and the importance of upkeeping our immune systems. Students learned about various examples of diseases as well as strategies to prevent the transfer of communicable diseases. Here is a slide show that was used to support the lesson.
5th Grade: Maturation and Emotional Wellness
These two lessons were based on teaching students the science behind puberty and the emotional and physical changes that can be expected. The boys and the girls are separated for these lessons, to discuss hormones and the changes they bring about to our bodies during maturation. Students were informed of hygiene-related products and tips to help with hygiene during this time. Here is a link to a description of the video that supported this lesson. If you would like more information about the topics covered in these lessons please reach out to the contacts listed below.
6th Grade: Personal Hygiene and Growth
These two lessons were based on teaching students the importance and basics of the routines involved in personal hygiene. Students learned about bacteria's role in our hygiene and the effects they can have on our health if they lead to infections. Healthy hygiene practices were reviewed throughout these lessons. Here is a link to a video that was used to support these lessons.
If you have any questions or would like to request further information about any specific topic please do not hesitate to contact your students' P.E. teacher, Peter Guellnitz or Roger Anderson, our Director of Wellness.
