Educator Preparation Program News
Spring 2019
New Format
As we are continuously working to improve our communication, we are trying out a new format for the EPP newsletter and will now be sending them out quarterly. We hope you find the updates informative and easy to read.
Indiana CORE Assessments Website Update
On June 4, the Indiana CORE Assessments for Educator Licensure website will begin featuring a responsive design. The website responsive design will simplify the experience candidates have when accessing the program website to view information or register for a test, regardless of the type of device being used. The format will automatically adjust to accommodate viewing and use based on the device (e.g., tablet, desktop computer, and phone).
Special Education Preparation Resource
The Indiana IEP Resource Center (IEPRC), with the support of the Indiana Department of Education Office of Special Education, has developed access for preservice teachers and teacher education programs to our state’s IEP program. This access provides an opportunity for future special educators to earn valuable experience in the actual system they will use in the field. Indiana IEP (IIEP) is used by our state to document Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for all students with disabilities. To this end, a site was developed for colleges and universities to provide access to Indiana IEP for preservice teachers. The system functions exactly as the live version teachers use in the field. College professors and teachers can create accounts for their class and populate their own “school” with sample students for their classes to use. Consultants from IEPRC are available to help with the initial setup and provide continued support for any college or university interested in taking advantage of this great opportunity!

Approved Programs
We have updated our Accreditation page to include additional information about the process for officially closing a program.
We are pleased to have recently recommended several new programs in high-need licensure areas for Indiana State Board of Education approval. If your institution is considering adding a licensure program to address local or state-wide educator shortage areas, please see these resources.

Licensing Reminder
REPA 3 Transition
Important Reminder! REPA 3 went into effect on January 16, 2015. EPPs, however, are still transitioning from REPA to REPA 3. While there are some differences between REPA and REPA 3, a most crucial change for EPPs is ensuring curriculum requirements for “Reading instruction” (511 IAC 10.1-1.1) include “interventions that are direct, explicit, and multi-sensory” as a component of scientifically-based reading. If not already, EPPs have until August 31, 2019 to incorporate this within their program of study. EPPs must provide evidence of this change to IDOE prior to this date in order to recommend REPA 3 licenses. A copy of our REPA 3 Verification Form/Instructions can be found here. Please revisit https://www.doe.in.gov/licensing/repa for more details.
To ensure that all programs are reviewed and receive verification of REPA 3 alignment in advance of this deadline, we are requesting that EPPs submit their materials electronically to sbogan@doe.in.gov no later than May 1.
