Benton Weekly Update

Week 10: October 19-23, 2020

Parent Conference Week ~ Alternative Schedule Happening

Two Big Things

1). Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

If you haven't scheduled your conference yet, it's not too late! With conferencing by Zoom, you have the convenience of meeting with different teachers on different days. Conferences are 10 minutes long and available Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1pm-3pm, and Tuesday evening from 5pm-7pm. Links to schedule virtual conferences with your child's teachers are posted on on each teacher's page in the Staff Directory.

2). Alternative Learning Schedule

To accommodate Parent Conferences, students will be on a minimum day schedule this week. Classes begin at 9am each day, but are only 20 minutes long and conclude each day at 10:35am. It is vital that students join each class on time since it is only 20 minutes long. See the schedule posted below.

Spotlight on Learning: 6th Grade Language Arts (ELA)

In the 6th grade ELA classes students are just finishing up their novel study on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone! The students have loved reading about the challenges and triumphs that Harry faces throughout the story such as bullying, the death of loved ones, and making good choices in difficult circumstances. A work of fiction, the Harry Potter stories explore themes of friendship, loyalty, perseverance, and good triumphing over evil. During this unit, the students been sorted into houses and are working each day to earn points towards the House Championship! As a spooky tribute to Halloween at the end of this month, the students just started a Nightmare Narrative where they describe a nightmare from their past. It's getting spooky around here!!!
