Senior Awards Night
93 of our 188 seniors received recognition for their academic, athletic, and/or service on the evening of May 30th. $305,018 was distributed amongst the awards in large part to our supportive and generous community.
Thank you to our Agricultural department for the wonderful flowers and to Mrs. Gilmore for the fabulous sweets everyone enjoyed prior to the event.
In addition, a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Rita Courtois, who without this event could not go as smoothly and efficiently as it does.

Teal Tuesday
RHS staff participated in the 2nd annual Teal Tuesday for Tourette Syndrome Awareness on May 21st! This campaign is an endeavor of Aidan (5th grade) and Allison (3rd grade) of Lake Street School. Their campaign is to raise awareness for this neurological condition which they both bravely battle on a daily basis.
“Why teal?” Tourette Education Awareness and Love, that’s why!
During the week of May 20th through 24th staff and students donated to the Tourette Association of America’s Awareness and Advocacy Fund.
With the help of Vernon Public Schools, Aidan and Allison raised $820 in the schools and received $75.00 in online donations from school staff. In addition, they raised $365 from family and medical professionals – which gave Team TICtasTIC a grand fundraising total of $1260! This beats last year’s donation by $5.00.

RHS Instrumental Program
This spring semester has been a busy one for the Rockville High School Instrumental Program! In April, the Marching Ram Band traveled to Walt Disney World to perform in the parade on Main St. at the Magic Kingdom. Marching down Main St. truly was the highlight of the trip, as the band was able to perform and represent Rockville High School and Vernon, CT in front of thousands of guests. This was a once in a lifetime experience for these student, and hearing our school’s name announced over the PA system in Disney was unlike anything that they will ever experience again! In addition to this amazing performance, students also participated in a workshop with a professional musician from Disney, and recorded their own soundtrack to the movie Moana!
After this eventful trip, the Symphony Band, Jazz Band, and Marching Band continued to prepare for their upcoming end of the year performances, starting with WFSB’s “20 Towns in 20 Days.” The Marching Band was asked to help represent the best of Vernon at Henry Park, and performed on live TV on May 21st. Quickly after that, on May 24th, the Symphony Band traveled to Westfield High School in Massachusetts for a competition, later traveling to Six Flags for the final awards ceremony. After critique, and being scored by two collegiate music professors, the band earned a score of 86.75, and a rating of “Excellent,” taking second place in the competition. Although their score and performance were impressive, and something to be proud of, at the end of the night, the band was awarded the most prestigious award at the competition; the “Esprit de Corps.” The Esprit de Corps Award recognizes the participating organization that displays an exemplary attitude of positive support and outstanding personal behavior throughout the festival weekend. Personal integrity, quality character values, a desire for excellence, and a spirit of cooperation serve as the cornerstone qualities of the Esprit de Corps Award.
Although these were tremendously exciting times, the band students were not quite done yet! After all of these great performances, the Marching Band continued on, paying tribute to our fallen soldiers in the Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 28th. The Symphony Band and Jazz Band performed in their final concert which also featured our Inter-Elementary School Band on May 29th. It has been a busy semester for the music students at Rockville High School, and will cap of their year with a final performance at both the Adult Education Graduation on June 6th, and the Rockville High School graduation on June 12th as we celebrate the accomplishments of all of our graduates!
Congratulations to our 2019 Band Senior Class
