Crawford's Corner... A Message from the Principal

Hello Crockett Family -

An essay by an American Poet, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, was shared with me recently. A quote within it stuck with me - she states, "I urge you, ask you, gentle you, to please not spend your spirit dry by bewailing these difficult times. Especially do not lose hope. Most particularly because, the fact is that we were made for these times. " To read the essay in its entirety, click here.

I also recently sent the following message out to the community. Because of the importance of the topic and wanting as many community members to participate as possible, I thought I would repeat the message here.
The recent events have left many us with strong feelings including feelings related to living in uncertain times. We will have several upcoming opportunities for staff and students who would like to participate in a restorative circle to help process these feelings.

On Monday, March 5th at 6:00 pm we will be having a general PTSA meeting in the Crockett High School library. We will be discussing school safety at Crockett High School - specifically, tips for our community on school safety, reviewing our safety procedures with Sergeant Cox, and any opportunities for improvement. All staff, students, and parents are welcome to attend and participate in this discussion. After the meeting, I will send out any updates and outcomes from that meeting to our school community.

We will also be having an advisory lesson that will address this same topic with students next Thursday, March 8th. In addition, counselors are available for staff and students at any time should your child need support.

Click on the link below for a resource that guides teachers and parents on how to talk to your children about violence. I have also included a graphic below that reviews our safety and security procedures. Please know that I value our Crockett Community and care for you all. I am sending each of you peace, love, and light in this journey as we continue to remain Always Victorious!

Cosmetology Earns Perfect Inspection

On February 7, Crockett Cosmetology was visited by an Inspector from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for a twice-a-year, unannounced visit to ensure compliance of all TDLR regulations. After the 3-hour inspection, Crockett received a perfect report for the fifth time in a row. CONGRATULATIONS to the students and teachers, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Villarreal.

The inspection requires programs to follow approved curriculum by the state, speaking to students about their processes and systems, and emphasizing the importance of TDLR. They do a physical roll call, check that official documents are posted for the public, and inspect the sanitation of equipment, supplies, and facilities. Any violation results in a $500 fine up to $40,000; a hair can’t be found on the floor or on a comb.

Due to outstanding inspections, Crockett Cosmetology serves as the “lab” for TDLR as they train inspectors; it serves as an example of best practices.

In addition, Mrs. Villarreal, Subject Matter Expert, assisted in reviewing the State Cosmetology Licensing Exam.
