College Admissions
UC Updates for Incoming Freshmen
To serve students and their families during this crisis, UC has enacted the following temporary measures, which are explained in detail in an online FAQ.
· UC has temporarily suspended the letter grade requirement for A-G courses completed in spring 2020 for both prospective and admitted students. For transfer students, the university has relaxed the cap on Pass/No Pass courses eligible for transfer to enter UC as a junior.
Statement of Intent to Register (SIR)
· The deadline for students to accept their admissions offers remains May 1 for freshmen and June 1 for transfer students. Students who need additional time, or who need a deferment of a deposit, should contact their admissions office directly. Requests will be considered individually by each campus providing maximum flexibility to students needing extensions, and individual campuses have the authority to extend the deadline for accepting admission offers beyond May 1 or June 1. If a campus has extended its admissions deadline, they will notify admitted students directly.
AP Exams
- Despite changes to the format and content of AP exams this term, the university will continue to award credit for exams with scores of 3, 4 or 5.
Exam credit and the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
- UC will continue to award credit for designated IB subjects passed with scores of 5, 6 or 7, as well as extra units for the IB Diploma completed with 30 points or more.
Admitted student resources
We recognize that visiting campus is an important factor for students and their families in making their choice about where to attend college.
In light of the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders, UC campuses have transitioned from in-person events and programs to virtual and online formats.
All campuses are planning a wide array of opportunities for admitted students including virtual open houses, live chats, webinars, phone/text campaigns, and social media events.
Admitted students have several steps to complete in the enrollment process after submitting the SIR. Submitting documents, knowing when to expect a Financial Aid offer, and learning about summer programs are important parts of the process.
For more information on the enrollment process UC provides the Next Steps from Admission to Enrollment for Freshmen and Transfers.
Housing options are available for both freshmen and transfers. Here is more information on deadlines, options for family housing, and links to housing sites for each campus.

Waitlist information
Information for freshmen
Fall-term freshman applicants who received waitlist offers have an opt-in deadline of April 15.Students can accept waitlist offers from multiple campuses, but can only accept one offer of admission.
Even if a student accepts a waitlist offer at a UC campus, that student should submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) to ensure a place to attend in the fall.
Multiple SIR
Students are only allowed to submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) to one UC campus. Students who submit more than one SIR will be contacted directly by those campuses to clarify their intent to enroll by withdrawing from all campuses except the one which they plan to attend.
Waitlisted students
Students who accept a UC admission offer from the waitlist and have already submitted a SIR at another UC campus must cancel their SIR at the campus which they no longer plan to attend. The SIR deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.
For contact information so students can advise a UC campus to cancel their SIR go here.
Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) update
Due to COVID-19 stay-at-home orders, the May 9, 2020 UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) has been cancelled.
Students intending to take the AWPE on May 9th will have other opportunities to satisfy UC’s Entry Level Writing Requirement and will hear more about these options from their intended UC campus in the coming months.

CSU Updates
The CSU has temporarily relaxed some undergraduate admissions standards for both newly admitted students and prospective students to account for changes in grading, instruction and administration of standardized tests.
CSU campuses are prepared to be as flexible as possible with students who need may need more time to meet intent to enroll, and transcript deadlines.
To serve students and their families during this time, the CSU has enacted the following temporary measures:
- The CSU will accept grades of "Credit" or "Pass" to satisfy "a-g" requirements completed during winter, spring or summer 2020 terms. All prior coursework must be graded and a grade of C- or better must be earned for the course to satisfy “a-g” requirements. Grades of credit/pass or no credit/non-passing will not be included in the calculation of high school GPA.
- CSU campuses will assess and initially place students in first-year English/Math based on multiple measures: high school and college courses completed, GPAs and test scores (SBAC, ACT, SAT) that students have submitted thus far.
- The CSU will not facilitate a systemwide Early Start Program in summer 2020; individual CSU campuses may offer summer transitional programs (e.g. Summer Bridge) in virtual formats.
- The CSU requests that high schools that can provide transcripts by July 15, 2020, do so; however, campuses will continue to accept transcripts through the fall 2020 term. CSU campuses will not rescind conditional offers of admission based on the non-receipt of transcripts. If a student is not able to provide an official transcript, due to extended school closure, CSU campuses may use unofficial or self-reported data for senior year grades and graduation status.
- New first-year students will remain in a conditionally admitted status until the CSU campus receives a final transcript document and review of the transcript for a-g requirements is completed.
- If a student has not met all a-g requirements after review of their final transcript document, at that time, CSU campuses may use admission exceptions on a case-by-case basis if students are no longer CSU-eligible, based on the inability to complete all “a-g” courses in which they were enrolled in spring 2020. Consideration can include how well the student is doing academically in fall 2020. Students should in no way assume that enrollment in Fall 2020 CSU courses means that an exception will be automatically granted.
- The College Board has announced changes to the AP exam content and format for spring 2020. The CSU will honor all existing transferable credit articulation for spring 2020 AP exams on which scores of 3, 4, or 5 are earned.
