Letter from the Principal
Hello Sundling Families,
With only a few days until the official start of the 20/21 school year, I wanted to reach out with additional information and a few reminders.
All Sundling students will receive a link to a virtual “Walk Your Schedule” on Monday, August 17th at 1:00 PM. Although we cannot be in person for this annual event, we put together a set of slides with video links from the teachers and staff at our school! The students should have their schedule handy, and they can look through these slides to see welcome videos and information from the administration and teachers that they will work with during the school year. This link will be available anytime after 1:00 for student viewing.
Students will begin receiving Google Classroom codes and other class information from teachers at Sundling throughout the day on Tuesday, August 18th. The students will need this information to be ready and prepared to join live classes on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 19th. School will begin at 7:50 am. Students will follow their normal bell schedule of classes, using their schedule from Infinite Campus.
Sundling will be offering two days of material/textbook distribution for students and families. Textbooks and items that may be needed at home during virtual learning will be put together and labeled for parent pick up on the following days:
Monday, August 24, 2020 (9:00am-6:00pm)
Tuesday, August 25, 2020 (9:00am- 6:00pm)
7th grade families will enter the school and go to the District Meeting Room to pick up materials. 8th grade families will enter the school and go to the lower cafeteria to pick up items. Families can come at anytime, as designated above to get their items. Families can also pick up items for a neighbor or friend if needed. If items cannot be picked up during the designated times, parents should contact our office for other arrangements. We would like to have these items for students to begin using at home on Wednesday, August 26th.
As our staff begins planning for the start of the school year, we are also looking for creative ways to connect and provide additional information to families during our annual Parent Orientation. Although we cannot be in person, we will be looking to mimic the experience and sharing of information virtually. The date for our Parent Orientation is Thursday, August 27th @ 6:30 pm. Please mark this date on your calendars, and I will provide more information in the coming weeks.
The teachers and staff have been working diligently over the past few days/weeks to prepare for a smooth transition and a positive and engaging learning experience for your children. Please be patient and flexible as we begin the year, and navigate through uncharted waters. We will continue to get better together with each day, and each experience, and we will all be better because of it!
Thanks for all of your continued support of our school! It’s a Great Day to be a Paladin!
Take care and stay well,
Jason Dietz

Message from PTA President Gretchen Elzer
On behalf of your Sundling PTA – Welcome to your 2020-2021 Walter R. Sundling Jr. High School year!
Things will be a little different in the Sundling PTA world, but we’re still here ready to engage with you the best way we can.
PTA is no longer a noun. It’s a verb – an action plan working to support your child’s success. It’s an invitation to every family in our school to participate because we can do more together than we can do apart.
There’s no wrong way to PTA – just as long as you’re doing it for your child. You can give money by becoming a member or donating. You can volunteer time and effort. Or you can help grow our strength and presence at the local, state, or national level as an advocate for improving your child’s education.
A few of our annual PTA events have either been put on hiatus or pushed to a later date. But we have a few things in the works to look forward to such as Reflections, our Book Fair, and our Student/Faculty Basketball game.
Our PTA meetings are held monthly, and ALL are encouraged to join! Our principal, Mr. Dietz or Vice Principal Mr. Rice attend these meetings, so you will have an opportunity to hear first-hand about current happenings within the school and the district, along with informative PTA news.
You can stay connected by joining our Sundling PTA Facebook page or visiting us at Memberhub https://sundlingpta.memberhub.store/
Whether you join the PTA, attend a PTA meeting, buy a book at the book fair-it all contributes to the experience your student will have this year. We want to thank you in advance for all your support.

WRS PTA Reflections
I hope your student got a jump start this summer on what the Reflections theme means to them. The 2020-2021 Reflections theme is I Matter Because… Fill in the blank and let us know either through something written with words or expressed through dance or music or show us with photography or artwork.
The Reflections arts contest is a National PTA program supporting the arts in education. Please email me for the registration form or any of the rules. The categories are: Dance choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Submissions are due October 28, 2020.
