Kimura Family Silent Auction Benefit

A note from Cathy:

I'd like to take this time to thank everyone for their help with the Kimura Benefit. This event was so important to us and I have been overwelmed with everyones generosity. We had LALC and FUMC families and staff donate baskets, money and/or their time. The community was very generous and we certainly could not have done any of this without all of you. Together with your help, we were able to raise $7,400.00 for the Kimura Family! We are blessed to be a part of such a caring and committed community. Thank you to everyone that put their energy towards this special event. It was a lot of fun and highly successful! Many prayers and much love goes out to the Kimura Family.

A Note From the Kimura Family:

In December when Leslie was first diagnosed with leukemia, we felt alone, like the world was crashing down around us and that we would never recover. We did not feel that way for long. As word began to spread about her illness, people started dropping off meals, baked goods, cards, gifts, helping out with Anthony and Alex, making origami cranes, saying prayers, making good wishes for our family. For weeks, we were surprised nearly every day by random acts of kindness, oftentimes from people we didn't even know. We are so grateful, every single day, to live in Iowa City, near one of the best children's hospitals in the country, to have such wonderful friends and family close by, to be a part of the Little Angels family where our kids have grown up. On July 2nd Leslie started the 3rd and final stage of treatment, the Maintenance Phase. At the end of 106 weeks, 2 more years, she will be done with treatment and will hopefully not remember much of this experience at all. But we will remind her of how very blessed we are to have so many people who care about us.

We cannot adequately express our feeling of gratitude toward the staff and parents of LALC. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of time and money to help our family. We have always felt lucky to be part of LALC where, as Cathy always says, “We have the best staff and parents of any center.” We couldn’t agree more. Again, thank you.

Yearly Papework

It is that time of year again! The Department of Human Services is very strict with child care centers when it comes to paperwork. Everything must date a year from last year's paperwork. To keep the process running smoothly, LALC updates it's paperwork every August no matter when you signed up. You should have recently received an email requesting that you go to our website to update your paperwork and then to email it to me. For the present moment I am excepting typed signatures however that is not acceptable for DHS. (They used to but changed their minds.) Sometime in September I will be waiting for you in the lobby to give me your "John Hancock" on your emergency form and permission form. Many families have asked me if they still need to fill out their food program paperwork if they know they are over the income limit. The answer to this question is YES! Everyone MUST fill it out and sign it. It will get sent back to you if you forget to sign it. You do NOT have to include your SS # and you can write exempt across the income section. We still get reimbursed if you are over income limits (just at a smaller rate). The majority of our families are over income limits but we still get back approximately $1,000/mo if everyone turns in their paperwork. This helps out our grocery budget immensely. Please feel free to contact Cathy or Jamilee with any questions you may have regarding any of the forms. Everything should be turned into the office by Friday, August 31st.

Recipe suggestions are always welcome!
