Kimura Family Silent Auction Benefit
A note from Cathy:
I'd like to take this time to thank everyone for their help with the Kimura Benefit. This event was so important to us and I have been overwelmed with everyones generosity. We had LALC and FUMC families and staff donate baskets, money and/or their time. The community was very generous and we certainly could not have done any of this without all of you. Together with your help, we were able to raise $7,400.00 for the Kimura Family! We are blessed to be a part of such a caring and committed community. Thank you to everyone that put their energy towards this special event. It was a lot of fun and highly successful! Many prayers and much love goes out to the Kimura Family.
Look who escaped from the zoo!
A big THANKS goes to Traci Azbell for sharing her artistic talent as well as all the other LALC staff who helped keep the kids entertained.
Acoustic Excellence
Kathy Marshall and Rufus Kuhn provided a lovely musical backdrop.
Scrumptious Bites
Shane Stange, Beth Larsen and Jamilee Xiong cooked up a storm in the kitchen providing delicious dishes for grownups and kids alike.
A Note From the Kimura Family:
In December when Leslie was first diagnosed with leukemia, we felt alone, like the world was crashing down around us and that we would never recover. We did not feel that way for long. As word began to spread about her illness, people started dropping off meals, baked goods, cards, gifts, helping out with Anthony and Alex, making origami cranes, saying prayers, making good wishes for our family. For weeks, we were surprised nearly every day by random acts of kindness, oftentimes from people we didn't even know. We are so grateful, every single day, to live in Iowa City, near one of the best children's hospitals in the country, to have such wonderful friends and family close by, to be a part of the Little Angels family where our kids have grown up. On July 2nd Leslie started the 3rd and final stage of treatment, the Maintenance Phase. At the end of 106 weeks, 2 more years, she will be done with treatment and will hopefully not remember much of this experience at all. But we will remind her of how very blessed we are to have so many people who care about us.
We cannot adequately express our feeling of gratitude toward the staff and parents of LALC. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of time and money to help our family. We have always felt lucky to be part of LALC where, as Cathy always says, “We have the best staff and parents of any center.” We couldn’t agree more. Again, thank you.
