Hats-Off Teacher Award Recipients
We presented two Hats-Off recognitions to teachers today. We'll start off with Mrs. Baldino! A parent writes:
"Hats Off to Mrs. Baldino for taking care of hearts while also taking care of business in the classroom. She always finds a way to not only make the learning fun, but to also push kids to put forth their best efforts. Our daughter is definitely being challenged in 8th grade Social Studies, while also being loved and appreciated for who she is as a learner and person!"
Mrs. Baldino is one of WMS' treasures! Congrats Mrs. Baldino!
Mrs. Young received our second Hats-Off recognition today. One of our WMS parents shared:
"Math is hard. Our daughter has never really liked math until she was put in Mrs. Young's class! She is funny, teaches in a way kids can understand it and is simply wonderful. She took a kid who hated math to LOVING math and that is saying something! Well done Mrs. Young!"
Congrats, Mrs. Young! Keep up that Math awesomeness!
"I am reaching out, finally, as a result of the post card Mr. Tully mailed to my son. First let me start by saying, you have no idea how big of an impact he made in my son's life. I have never seen him enthusiastic about school until this year. As far as I’m concerned you can throw all those analytics and test scores to the wayside. I cannot imagine the stress involved with teachers jobs these days. I’m sure it's beyond overwhelming and I am so thankful there are people like Mr. Tully who have not yet given up on our kids. Taking the time to send a postcard with so much rich content meant everything to my son. This was not a “hi, how are you doing postcard” it was obvious that he took the time to get to know him. Kids notice this.
I hope Mr. Tully is recognized for his dedication."
We love having the Wookiee on our team! Congrats, Mr. Tully!
(Mr. Tully is a HUGE Star Wars fan. He looks favorably on being compared with a Wookiee!)

SRO Student of the Week
SRO Student of the Week: Erin!
Her teacher writes: "Erin went out of her way to invite a new student to Lunch and Learn this week to make sure that the new student felt included and supported at school. Erin is always looking for ways to include others, especially new students."
You're awesome, Erin! We're proud to have you at WMS!

Schools Need Your Help: Apply to be a Substitute Today
On average this year, we need 34 substitutes each day. Like other school districts across the state and nation, our substitute pool has decreased, and we’re experiencing significant staffing shortages.
We want to continue providing the best educational experience possible for your children, and we need your help. Apply today to be a substitute or spread the word to someone you know. Benefits include:
- Competitive pay
- Required training hours paid at $12.63 per hour
- Flexibility to accept jobs as your schedule permits
- Ability to choose at which schools you want to work
- Chance to make an impact in the community
There are two types of substitutes: certified or classified. Certified substitutes are for those who hold a teaching license or a one, three, or five-year sub license. Classified substitutes can work in a range of non-teaching positions, including:
- Instructional Aide - assists the teacher with students in their daily work
- Special Education Instructional Aide - assists students with special needs in their daily work
- Nutrition Services - assists cooks and servers in the school kitchens
- Receptionist - works to answer phones and do light clerical work
- Bus Aide - assists children on the school bus to arrive safely to and from school
- Health Aide - supports the Health Office
Certified guest teachers and retired teachers will earn $150 per day for more than four hours; $75 for a half day, more than two hours, less than four; or $45 for two hours or less.

What to Expect with Winter
Despite this year being unseasonably warm, winter seems to have finally arrived. With that in mind, we wanted to remind you of the potential winter-weather scenarios:
Closure - All schools / district offices will be closed. There will be no remote learning. Please check your school’s website for the status of afternoon and evening school activities.
Two-Hour Delay - All in-person school start times and bus pick-up times will be pushed forward two (2) hours. All a.m.-only preschool and kindergarten classes will be canceled. Watch for an adjusted schedule from your school.
Early Dismissal - All schools and district offices will close at a specified time. All afterschool and evening activities will be canceled.
In the event of inclement weather or potential inclement weather, our team monitors the current conditions and forecasts, tests road conditions, and discusses with other entities in our area. Student and staff safety is our most important consideration when making weather-related school decisions.
In the case of any of these scenarios, we will send a message through Infinite Campus, as well as post on the district’s website and Facebook page as soon as possible.
I Matter
Colorado House Bill 21-1258 established this temporary behavioral health services program to provide access to mental health and substance use disorder services for youth, including addressing needs that may have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is open to youth 18 years of age or younger or 21 years of age or younger if receiving special education services.
The program, called I Matter, is funded by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health. The program provides up to 3 free behavioral health sessions for youth in Colorado and reimburses participating providers, which are licensed clinicians from agencies and independent contractors.
