Kids Heart Challenge
On Monday, BAS is kicking off a fundraiser for the American Heart Association titled the Kids Heart Challenge. All proceeds will be going to the AHA to help kids with special hearts. Every student will be coming home with a collection envelope. The easiest way to donate is online but checks will also be accepted and can be handed in via the collection envelope no later than Friday 5/19. Thank you gifts are included in this fundraiser as a token of appreciation from the AHA. Images of these gifts and the different tiers can be found on the collection envelope. The distribution of thank you gifts will be handled by Ms. Carbone after the conclusion of the fundraiser. This is a great opportunity to come together as a school to raise money for an amazing cause!
Playground After School
As the weather continues to turn to get warmer and families are staying at the BAS Playground, please be sure to keep all safe on the playground.
Students know the expectations of the playground during recess and we are hopeful that families can continue to support the expectations in order to keep everyone having fun while also staying safe.
Thank you for your partnership!
Nurse's Corner
Dear B.A.S. Families,
After a long winter, with lots of snow and cold weather, we made it to spring!!!
It was a tough winter, not just with the weather, but with the flu and viruses.
It’s been a while since September, and I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of some basic policies that allow us to keep our students healthy and safe in school.
It is very important that we have updated home, work and cell phone numbers. If any numbers have changed, since you completed the forms in September, it is vital that you make the office and/ or me aware. In the event of illness or emergency, time is of the essence and too much time is wasted on wrong numbers.
Early in the school year, in the classes with a student with a severe food allergy, a letter went home, asking for your cooperation in the classroom. If you only vaguely remember this, please see your Child's classroom teacher or myself and we can review the food to avoid in your Child's specific classroom. Though this may be an inconvenience to some, to others it can be a life threatening event. Let’s all work together to keep all our students safe.
Now with spring, and flowers blooming, etc. many of our students may suffer from symptoms of seasonal allergies. It is important when they come into school, that they wash the pollen off their hands. As well it is a good idea to remind your Child's teacher so that, when windows are open your child is not right in front. If there is medication that you would want me to have available, I must have a doctor's order (even for over the counter medication), and the medication/inhaler in the original box. Forms are always available online.
Lastly, I must ask that if your child will be late or absent, please call my office. To report an illness, please call my line at 908-709-6973. Please leave us your Child's name, classroom teacher and reason for absence . Please be specific as to why your child is absent so that we can note trends of illness, and alert those that may need to contact their physician. Your call to me is always confidential.
Thank you for your time in reviewing this Newsletter. And thank you always for your cooperation and support here at Bloomingdale Avenue School.
Sincerely yours,
Sherryl Lazo, R.N.
