HOW TO ACCESS COLLEGE BOARD SCORE REPORTS

“The act of showing up for school is one of the greatest predictors of student success”
Research indicates that student attendance is highly correlated with success in school. Time missed from the classroom, where students and teachers interact, can never truly be made up, even by doing “makeup” work. Establishing good attendance habits better equip young people toward being productive members of society.
Once a student misses nine full days of school, the school may require a doctor’s note on file in order for each absence to be excused. If a student has more than nine days of excused absences, the SIT teams are actively providing the student and family with appropriate intervention.
2023 STANDARDIZED SCHOOL DAY TESTING INFORMATION
In January/February, counselors will meet with students to discuss the benefits of taking challenging yet balanced courses to ensure their academic path prepares them for life after high school. As part of this preparation, students will begin to prepare to take standardized tests that may help them gauge their readiness. Below is information regarding testing dates, test prep and locating test scores.
ILLINOIS STATE ASSESSMENTS
FRESHMAN CLASSES & CAREERS
Counselors will visit all Freshmen Biology classes on November 22 and December 6. During these visits, we will complete a “Find your Path Assessment” with School Links, our new College and Career readiness platform. This assessment will help students understand their personality match, explore career clusters, and research different post-secondary options. They will also play a career jeopardy game and review course enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year. An email including information on course enrollment will be shared with families before these presentations.
COLLEGE APPLICATION SUPPORT
The School Counseling Office will host our third college application workshop on December 8th during all lunch periods. Seniors who want assistance completing college applications can stop by the library during lunch. No appointment is needed!

SUPERINTENDENT, DR. DAVID LARSON: ENCOURAGES STUDENT TO EXPLORE DUAL CREDIT COURSE OPTIONS
We have a long tradition of creating opportunity, access and a sense of belonging for students to experience early college coursework through Advanced Placement and dual credit classes.
Our strong partnership with the College of DuPage (C.O.D.) allows our students to take dual credit courses, taught by Glenbard teachers during the regular school day. These courses provide our students with the opportunity to earn three college credit hours per course at no cost to students or families.
Dual credit courses have many benefits for our students and families, including:
● Reduced college costs
● Expedited time to degree completion
● Easing the transition between high school and college
● Opportunities for improving degree attainment
I encourage you and your student to contact your school counselor to explore opportunities to enroll in a dual credit class.
We envision our dual credit offerings in two important categories: college general education requirements and capstone experiences. The following courses would be considered great opportunities for students to get a head start on college general education requirements.
1. English 1101: English Composition 1 (IAI C1 900)
2. English 1102: English Composition 2 (IAI C1 901R)
3. Speech 1101: Fundamentals of Speech Communications (IAI C2 900)
4. Math 1218: General Education Math (IAI M1 904)
Each of these courses is part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), which means they are widely transferable for college credit among more than 100 participating colleges and universities in Illinois and beyond. I encourage students to talk with their counselor to see which dual credit options would be best for them.
In October, the Board of Education approved adding four capstone dual credit course experiences for our students. These courses allow students to dive deeply into a specific area that aligns with their postsecondary interests and earn college credit at the same time. These capstone courses will allow students to explore the fields of education and horticulture:
1. Intro to Education: Dual Credit 1100
2. School Procedures: Dual Credit 1101
3. Intro to Horticulture: Dual Credit 1100
4. Intro to Sustainable Urban Agriculture: Dual Credit 2300
I continue to be impressed with the students who have enrolled in dual credit classes, and I look forward to more students taking this opportunity to earn early college credit. We are committed to preparing students for success by exposing them to college-level coursework. I encourage you and your student to connect with your school counselor to discuss opportunities to enroll in a dual credit class.
ATHLETICS NEWS: NOVEMBER 2022
