EVA February Newsletter
February 2022
From the Principal
EVA Families,
The new semester is finally here. As integral partners in your student’s success, we always look forward to working with our parents and guardians to support and monitor our student’s learning. This is a great time for our students to re-establish and reinforce positive routines to finish the second half of the year strong. Please help reinforce the following routines:
Attend school regularly and on time: It is important for your students to engage in all classes and arrive at your zoom class on time. Please remember attendance is tracked based on active engagement and participation in all live zoom class sessions with cameras on. For our middle school students, please be sure to arrive on time or within the first five minutes of class since your teachers take attendance at the beginning of each class. As a reminder, missing 5 minutes of a 45-minute class is missing more than 10% of the class.
Monitor learning: Monitor and praise your student’s learning when reviewing their work and assessment data on your elementary student’s Canvas Course and on your middle school student’s Home Access Center profile.
iReady: The winter diagnostic is done so please ask your teachers about your student’s growth data. For our elementary students, please reinforce your students’ completion of their weekly iReady goals (Monday- 45 minutes of reading and Wednesday- 45 minutes of math).
SBA Update: This March, EVA students in Grades 3 through 8 will participate in the Spring Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). Students will participate in 3 different assessments based on their grade levels. Students in Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 will take the SBA in Math and English Language Arts (ELA). These four grade levels will have two testing days. Students in Grades 5 and 8 will take both assessments (Math & ELA) and the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). These two grade levels will have three testing days.
Since the SBA must be proctored and is required to be taken on a secure browser, our students will take the SBA at the Everett Community College (EvCC) campus on March 28 - 31, 2022 (9:15 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.). The EVA will need to plan transportation needs for these testing dates. Please click on this SURVEY and let us know if your students need bus transportation.

From the Counselor
February is Black History Month, which is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month.
In our current social climate this is a great opportunity for families to share with their students the importance of acceptance and treating others with respect and kindness regardless of how we may look. Our little ones (K-3rd) are great examples of this but as we get older for some this can change. Our country’s diversity continues to evolve and for us to continue to be successful it will be important to teach and model respect for others and the ability to work with people based on their skills and abilities regardless of background.
