Newsletter Week 8 Term 2

Tokoroa Intermediate School 22 June 2021

Cross Country

A wonderful Cross Country event has been held today at the South Waikato Events Center and the Tokoroa Memorial Sports Grounds.

The participation, behaviour and effort of the students was outstanding.

Thank you to the Events Center for hosting us, to our staff for all the organisation, especially Cameron Bramall, and the families and whanau who turned up to support the students on this fine, sunny day.

Results and photos will be published in the next newsletter.

School finishing early

This Friday, 25th June school will finish early at 1 pm to enable staff to attend a Paid Union Meeting.

National Young Leaders Day

On Wednesday 16th of June, a group of 24 students went to the National Young Leaders Day. It was held in Claudelands Arena, Hamilton. There were five speakers. They all had different backgrounds and different stories to tell.

They were Cam Calkoen, Brooke Neal, Riley Hathway, Shay Wright and Benny Tipene.

The speaker I enjoyed the most was Cam Calkoen because he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was born and it never seemed to stop Cam from achieving what he wanted to do in his life. Which was really inspiring to me as a person. (Casey)

My favourite speaker was Riley Hathaway because she had talked about how she made a show with her Dad about sea life. She loved the ocean so much and tried to swim every day after school. She overcame many of her fears but was also overwhelmed by all the rubbish in the ocean. She also talked about how doing good things in life can influence others around you. (Kiera)

My favourite speaker was Shay Wright because he showed us that we can be our own superhero and that your voice can do many things for yourself and others. He also told us that you may or may not be able to do things on your own. A quote from him was You can achieve more as a team than as a single person. (Takurangi)

It was a great day out!

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari He toa takitini

My strength is not due to me alone, but due to the strength of many.

Big picture

New Zealand Young Writers Day

Last Friday on the 18th of June, five students from the Enrichment English group went to the New Zealand Young writers day in Tauranga. We went with our Enrichment English teacher Mrs Long. There were about 60 other students from all over the Bay of Plenty and Waikato that attended the Writing day.

Some of the Authors we were lucky enough to work with were Lee Murray, Lewis Morgan and Grace Bridges.

Lee Murray and Grace Bridges taught us how to write quick and easy fairy tales.

Lewis Morgan taught us how to write stories with story lines and pictures, you had to have parts in your story where there was a downfall for the main character.

It was a great day and we will be able to help the others in the Enrichment English group.
