Sand Ridge "Shark Bites" Update
September 12, 2021 - Issue #3
Last week was a busy, but wonderful week at Sand Ridge Elementary!
- Our students and staff have found their "groove" and amazing teaching and learning is happening all day, everyday!
- We were able to celebrate the selection of our new Safety Patrol students and they received their belts on Friday! They are a great group of fifth grade students who are going to help tremendously during morning entry and during dismissal, while setting a great example for our younger students.
- Our staff has been researching and writing Bright Ideas grants through Jones-Onslow, and we hope we have many awarded when winners are announced.
- We held our first "Coffee with the Counselors", which unfortunately, was poorly attended. We will be seeking parent input regarding these type of events and what the overall needs and wants are, to increase parent-school collaboration.
This week, I am especially excited for the installment of a new PTO Board and a new beginning for this organization. Our PTO is reforming and needs lots of parent participation. Please come out on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm to vote for a new board, join our PTO, and help plan a great course of events for Sand Ridge for this coming year.
Tomorrow is also the first day of enforcement of the new Mask Mandate that was approved by the Onslow County Schools Board of Education last week. Implementation began last Thursday, with full implementation occurring tomorrow. Information about the specifics of the mandate were sent home with students last Thursday and can also be found below under "Information for Parents". There is also a link to the full document on the Onslow County Schools website. If you are seeking an exemption, please remember that a note from a medical provider is required. This can be dropped off in the main office following morning buses, given to a staff member at carpool, or can be faxed to our main office.
We are still in need of Room Parents for many of our classrooms and still need one parent representative for our Strategic Leadership Team. Please consider helping if you can. I know that many of us have very busy schedules, but we value our connection to our students' families and your input and involvement.
Here's to another great week at Sand Ridge!
