A Message from Mrs. Hankins
JSE Families and Friends,
This week we begin our winter round of NWEA testing for students K-5. These assessments help guide our instruction based on the growth of your child. I love these because they are not accuracy specific, but show GROWTH of our kids. We are looking to see what they have learned, what they still need to learn, and what they can move toward learning.
Typically, you see these NWEA reports as the picture below. It shows your child's RIT score, compares it to the UTSC district grade level peers, and then to the national norms of the grade level. The dotted line graph is the goal of growth we hope to see, based on how the child is progressing.
If you need help understanding these graphs, we are happy to help. Celebrate your child's hard work, growth, and be sure to rest up and show up as your best self during the assessment!
You are loved at JSE,
Mrs. Hankins

Our top classes were Mrs. Bobin winning the Fat Cat Trophy and ice cream party with over 500 items.
Ms. Marckese's class had about 498, Mrs. Anderson at about 430, and Mrs. Stokes at 150.
The Giving Tree Dec 11-22
Student Council isn't finished with their philanthropic endeavors! This week we have the Giving Tree in the cafeteria. We will be collecting hats, gloves, scarves, and mittens for students and families who may need them.
Weather Protocol Reminders (repeat)
Remember we go outside if it's 10 degrees or above. Please have coats, hats, gloves, and other accessories to keep your child warm outside for 30 minutes. If you need assistance with any of these items, please let us know.
