2023-2024 Course Requests

Greetings Pirate Parents! Course request for 2023-2024 are available to review in the Skyward Student Portal. Please review the courses your student has selected for next year. If any changes need to be requested, students will complete the Course Request Change Form. The link is available in their grade level google classroom or here.

Course request changes must be completed by the end of the school day on Friday, March 24, 2023.


IMPORTANT:

  • Requests are subject to change, based upon eligibility for class, availability of class and/or leveling.
  • If changes are requested, the form must be completed in its entirety.

2023 Prom

Hey Juniors and Seniors! Starting March 21st, the day we come back from spring break, prom tickets will be for sale! Ticket prices for Juniors are $50 and Seniors are $25. Underclassmen may attend only if invited by an upperclassmen-ticket price is $50.


If you are planning to bring a guest from another school you will need to pick up Special Guest Request Form from Mrs. Smith now or at the prom purchase table in the commons during both lunches when we return from spring break. Guest must be able to present a government or school picture id. Guest must also be currently enrolled in a high school or be a RFHS graduate from the previous school year and does not exceed the age of 19. No exceptions.

Attendance Matters Incentive

Spanish Club Community Service March 17-18

Spanish Club officers will lead members in their annual community service at the Rockport Crawfish Cook-off and Tasting event. Students will help greet guests and assist them in checking in for the festival and concert. The event raises funds for local organizations.

Ahoy Pirate Families!


As we head into Spring Break, here are a couple of suggestions.


  1. Get more sleep. You can’t replace sleep with a double latte. And Spring Break can be a great time to catch up on sleep.

  2. Give a compliment to five different people in one day.


  • Scholarships- Senior students are busily making post-secondary plans, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) , College applications and researching career and military opportunities. Students and parents are encouraged to visit the RFHS Counselor Scholarship pages for updated information.   • SAVE THE DATE: The Senior Awards Night will be held on April 24, 2023.


  • Advisory March 20-March 24: Character Strong Relational Activities for all grade levels.

College and Career News

Important Dates/Deadlines:


  • March 22, 2023: Make-up TELPAS Assessment date
  • March 24,2023: New to Dual Credit Informational Mtg./Apply Texas Workshop
  • March 28, 2023: TSIA2.0 Assessment for those who need to meet assessment requirements for dual credit


Dual Credit Registration for Fall 2023 is Underway!

Students currently enrolled in dual credit coursework who are planning on taking classes in the Fall are encouraged to turn in their registration packet as soon as possible. Registration packets for current dual credit students will be available in the Shipyard and in the Counseling Department. Mrs. Stephenson will be meeting with current dual credit students on Tuesday, March 21, 2023,in the shipyard and will host another informational meeting/Apply Texas workshop for those new to dual credit on March 24, 2023 in the RFHS library.


Students must have a current meningitis vaccination or conscientious objection form on file to complete their registration to Del Mar College. (Incoming Juniors and Seniors, your vaccination may be expired or will expire soon. The vaccination is current for five years and is needed to enroll into college. )


Students new to dual credit need to have taken the TSIA2.0 unless they have met college ready standards on another qualifying exam such as the SAT or ACT. The TSIA2.0 scores are good for five years. (Note: Students can be exempt from the TSIA2.0 exam if their PSAT scores meet the following criteria for placement/registration in dual credit courses only. Students need to score a 460 or above on the Evidenced Based Reading & Writing portion of the exam and 510 or above in Mathematics.)


The TSIA2.0 is administered on the RFHS campus throughout the school year. Administration dates are posted in the weekly Compass Newsletter and registration forms can be found in grade level Google Classroom pages.


The exam is also offered at Del Mar College more frequently and on the weekend, to register go to: https://www.delmar.edu/offices/testing/tsi.html .


***Students must pre-register for the exam.. Students taking the exam for the first time must also complete a pre-assessment activity found at https://www.tsipreview.com. ***


March 28, 2023, will be the next TSIA 2.0 administration date for students new to dual credit. (A registration form can be found in the grade level google classroom pages for students)


Dual Credit Informational Meeting/Apply Texas Workshop - March 24, 2023

Students new to the dual credit program for the 2023-2024 school year are expected to participate in a dual credit informational session at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Students will receive support as they complete their required application to Del Mar College on the Apply Texas Application system during this time. Additional registration paperwork will also be distributed. Information regarding this upcoming meeting will be posted in grade level google classroom and on morning announcements. Students who are unable to make this meeting are encouraged to email Mrs. Stephenson, kstephenson@acisd.org.

SENIOR ADVISOR INFO

Senior Advisors will be hosting another TSIA2 English bootcamp on March 23rd and a Math bootcamp on April 11th. Mr. Sanchez will be teaching English bootcamp in room 232 from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. and Mr. Scott will be teaching the Math bootcamp in room 100 from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. We will be administering the retest the following day in Mr. Kelly’s room at 8:30 am. There will be a signup coming soon on Google Classroom so be on the lookout. See your Senior advisors with any questions and let's get college ready!

The Epilepsy Foundation Central and South Texas (EFSCT) scholarship application opened February 1, 2023. This is a unique opportunity for a student who is living with epilepsy.
The Scholarship is open to students who are seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree or trade school certification. The Memo’s “I’m Still Here” Scholarship is named in memory of Carmen “Memo” Avalos our EFSCT CEO’s mother. “I’m Still Here” are the final words that Memo was heard saying before she was placed on the ventilator. Not only her final words but , “I’m Still Here” also represents the tens of thousands of people with epilepsy who persevere each and every day, warriors who don’t give up.


One $2000 scholarship and 2 $1500 scholarships will be available. Scholarship deadline is April 1, 2023. Scholarship information is available online at https://efcst.org/help/scholarships/ and the attached checklist provides details of the application.

Senior Advisors hosted TSIA testing for athletes this week for Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors in an effort to get even more students college ready. These sessions were packed full and it was great to see some students make the benchmark on Math, and English/Essay.

The Senior Advisors hosted a trip to Kiewit Offshore Services in Ingleside. Our awesome welding class along with Chief Wilson toured the grounds and got insight as to what it takes to be a Career Technician within the company. Students also received a specialized presentation that explained the benefits of employment with Kiewit and career advice in general.

ACE NEWS

ACE will begin celebrating Rockport-Fulton Youth Water Week on Tuesday March 21st when the students return to school from Spring Break. The RFHS ACE Interact, Maritime, NJROTC, Culinary, Art, and Environmental Clubs are organizing Rockport-Fulton Youth Water Week, a youth/student-driven community event to celebrate the importance of water in Rockport-Fulton during the week of March 21st – 25th.

This weeklong event of engaging and interactive activities will include speakers from local and state government, nonprofit organizations, and community groups. The festivities will kick-off with a virtual Rockport-Fulton Water Scavenger Hunt, as well additional water engagement activities at the high school. Everything from water management and utilities to the health of our bays and waterways to careers in maritime and aquaculture and art will be showcased.


Just a reminder----Students will be on student holidays Friday March 10th and Monday March 20th, so there will be no ACE on those days including the week of Spring Break. ACE activities will resume on Tuesday March 21st.
