Principal's Update

Dear Anasazi Families,

We have officially completed the first 8 days of school! It is exciting to see the new friendships being made at Anasazi as students join new classes, welcome many new faces and have some returning ones from a year of online learning.

It is safe to say that the beginning of the school year is definitely not the back to normal that we all had hoped for. I say this as both a principal and a mother. The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (not SUSD) has the legal authority and responsibility to make the decision regarding quarantine of close contacts. We are obligated to follow their directives in this matter. In doing so there may be times that your child cannot be at school due to having Covid-like symptoms or being a close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid. I know this can be extremely frustrating as a parent. In full transparency, I received the "Your child has been deemed a close contact ..." parent call this week. It throws off our routine and adds a lot to our plate in regards to plans for work, childcare, testing results, plans for receiving access to the curriculum, etc.

I ask that if you receive this call that you please understand that Nurse Renee, the front office staff and administration are following protocols and trying our very best to ensure the safest learning environment for our school and district. We know that many are split on views, but ask that when having conversations you remember that this is not easy on any of us. We are simply doing our jobs and in doing so have to deliver news that at times is not desirable. We appreciate any courteousness and kindness you can show. This is all in effort to maintain the health of our community and keep us in an in-person learning environment at Anasazi.

A reminder that you will receive information regarding Covid cases and close contacts on a need to know basis. No news is good news. Please be checking your emails weekly for updates from Dr. Menzel.

As always thank you for your continued support as we all work together to have a successful year at Anasazi.

Serving your children,

Ms. Jennifer Waldron

IB Corner

Anasazi Kindness Project

This month's IB Learner Profile Attribute is CARING.

“We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.”

We are encouraging the students to take action and participate in our Anasazi Kindness Project. Please talk to your children about the ways they can show kindness at school, at home, and in the community. We will be documenting the students' acts of kindness to see how many we can complete in August. If your child is kind at home, try to capture it with a photo and send it to his or her teacher to be displayed.

Action is a key element of the IB PYP philosophy.

“Through taking individual and collective action, students come to understand the responsibilities associated with being internationally-minded and to appreciate the benefits of working with others for a shared purpose.”
