January 12, 2020

Happy New Year 2020! During the month of January, like many often do, I always reflect on the previous year. When thinking about the school year thus far, we have much to be proud of.

North Elementary continues to be a school of academic excellence as we rank in the top 20 elementary schools in West Virginia when comparing the performance on the general summative assessment. Student leadership is stronger than ever! Our Panther Paw have active roles throughout the building, students are participating in our daily morning message broadcasts and students are actively engaged in project based learning projects.

We have received a grant for 50K to expand our MakerSpace into the outdoors. This spring we will break ground to expand the lower garden area into an outdoor classroom and exploration zone. Our garden curriculum continues to grow even though winter is here. Students in grades 3-5 can even adopt a garden bed in the high tunnel to grow a crop of their choosing.

It is so important for our students to understand the value of community service, giving to others and empathy. In the months ahead, our leadership team will be exploring opportunities for our students as we try to instill these values. I look forward to this upcoming year as we continue to set goals, work hard and reach for the stars.

Don't forget to register for the online app, School Cash Online, so you can pay for school purchases electronically without sending cash or check to the school with your child.

If you have not submitted your inclement weather form, please do so tomorrow. This will inform us of your plan in the event of an unexpected early dismissal due to inclement weather.

We continue to go outside even in the winter months. If the temperature is above 25 degrees, we try to make it outside for a period of time throughout the day. Make certain your child brings a coat, hat and gloves so that this recess is enjoyable to them.

Remember we have a two hour early dismissal on Friday and there is no school on January 20th due to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.

Join us on Tuesday at 7:30pm on our Facebook page for PantherTales. Remember you can record 60 minutes on your reading log just by watching. You don't have to watch live - watch at your convenience.

I hope your weekend was swell and you are doing well. With the weekly edition of North News, this is Mrs. Webb. Make it a great week, or not, the choice is yours.
