Superintendent's Ramblings
Lots of good stuff going on!
All State Choir
Congratulations to 5th grader Brooklynn Curzon for being selected to participate in the All-State Choir!! We are proud you. Keep up the good work. Congratulations as well to Central Elementary music teacher Kaylee Brooks!
Music Memory at Central
The Central Elementary classes know their music. They have been studying composers and compositions and practice to improve their knowledge. They also compete, not just within their own program, but against students from other schools. The past couple of years, under the coaching of Central music teacher Kaylee Brooks, the Lyons team has done extremely well. Below is a picture of one of her 3rd grade groups warming up!
Outstanding Results at League Music Festival
Congratulations to LMS Band Director Andrew Scherer and the LMS Concert Band, ensembles and solos. They came home from the league music festival with the largest percentage of I (Outstanding) ratings I have ever seen. The band received one of them, 5 of 6 ensembles received a I, and 11 of the 13 rated solos also received I ratings. The other ensemble and the other two solos received II ratings which is still considered "Excellent". Way to go, middle school band students!
LHS Greenhouse Final Construction
The LHS Greenhouse is under construction and in the final phases. A crew from BriseƱo Construction started working on the structure this week and expect it to go quickly. The 1800-square foot building is north of the high school. LHS ag teacher and FFA sponsor Kristin Dolechek and her students are anxious to get started this spring.
Pi Day
March 14, (Pi Day) 3.14 should be a national holiday in the eyes of math teachers. At Lyons Middle School, the day is celebrated as a math holiday. All day long, students are involved in fun math activities and at the end of the day, the three students who have memorized the most number of pi digits get to pie a teacher or administrator! Here are pictures of a few of the math activities and the pi winners and their targets! Congrats to Martin Gonzalez (97 digits), Kolby Peter (111 digits), and Greta Showalter (223 digits). Thank you to Mr. Reazin, Mrs. Martinez, and Mr. Clarke for being good sports and getting pied!
Central Elementary Morning Announcements
Every morning before school even begins, Central Elementary students and staff gather in the gym to walk laps, listen to morning announcements, say the Pledge of Allegiance, and recognize students of character!
International Exchange Trip
Twenty-two Lyons students and four staff members are currently in Spain on a cultural exchange trip. The group will spend a week in Girona and Barcelona before returning home next weekend. Their host group from Spain will visit Lyons shortly afterwards and spend a week with our students. The trip was organized by LHS Spanish teacher Roser Puig Paz.
