'Put your whole confidence in God' - Catherine McAuley

Dear whānau,

Congratulations to our speedy superstars this week - great work at the cross country St Mary's! More news and pictures below - and again, thanks to our wonderful parents who made sure all our runners were in the right place at the right time.

A warm welcome to our new students this week - we have Eden Barbour - the first child in her family to start school and Quintin Reti who joins his big brother Nicholas.

God bless you all, and thanks for your flexibility this week.

Ngā manaakitanga (blessings)

Te kupu o te wiki - Matariki

At the end of this month we celebrate the Māori New Year with the rising of the Matariki star cluster. It is a time of reflection, celebration and planning. We have a celebration here at school on Thursday 23rd June. Ko te tūmanako ka pai te rā - It will hopefully be a good day.

You can find out more about Matariki, including the story behind the event here.

Cross Country results

Congratulations to all our Eastern Zone Cross Country Runners, what a fabulous bunch of students. Congratulations to Kate Wilson (6th - girls 11 years), James Deuchrass (2nd - boys 11 years) and Moss Wilson (1st - boys 11 years), Mia Wilkins (1st -girls 10 years) and Mason Chittock (1st - boys 10 years) all of whom will go on to Southland Cross Country later this month.

Southern Steel

Some lucky netballers had a chance to meet with the Southern Steel last night. These Year 5 and 6s had a training session and our girls look really professional, won't be long and we will be meeting with our own netballing stars!

Car parking

In a newsletter of celebrations it is always tough to have to send out reminders... however, once again the car parking situation is becoming a health and safety concern.

The drop off zone right outside the gate is not a parking spot, please do not park there; parking right here restricts the view for students who are crossing to cars that are parked in the right place.

I have said it before, and no doubt will have to say it again - the safety of all our children is paramount. Please be considerate of each other, you wouldn't forgive yourself if you hurt someone.

Swimming information

Children in Pūkeko, Tui, Kererū and Kea are still swimming Monday to Wednesday next week.

Rooms Moa, Takahē and Kiwi start on Thursday 16th and finish up Wednesday 22nd June. Moa at 10.30, Takahē 11.15 and Kiwi at 12.00pm. These older children are expected to wear their school uniform for these days - not sports uniform.
