RENAISSANCE ART IN SPAIN
Architecture, sculpture and painting. 15th-16th centuries.
ARCHITECTURE
3 types of renaissance architecture un Spain:
·plateresque (1500-1530)
-OUTSIDE: renaissance. E.g. Coats of arms or meddallions
·purist (1530-1560)
-Enlarged decorative elements as windows.
·herreriano (1560-1600)
-Slate roofs.
-No decoration, except windows that aren´t decoration.
SCULPTURE
CHARACTERISTICS:
-Polychrome, many colours.
-Very realistic.
-Religious themes to decorate the churches.
Sculptors- Berruguete and Juan de Dani.
PAINTING
-Enlongated figures, higher than they were.
-Strong lights.
-A different way of using colours as green, orange. purple or blue.
-Religious themes as the veneration of virgins.
LITERATURE
- There were two poetry academies in Spain (Seville and Salamanca).
- The verses used were composed of seven and eleven silabes.
- It was created a new genre, the eclogue (égloga).
-Garcilaso de la Vega was the most remarkable poet.
·NOVELS as el Lazarillo de Tormes or La Celestina belong to Renaissance period.
