NSN Volume 15 ⭐ April 17, 2023
Here is your weekly North Star News!
⭐ Principal's Corner ⭐
We have a BIG week ahead of us!
We're so excited for our Spring Concert tonight where Kindergarten through Fifth grade students will showcase their musical talents by sharing several songs from 'The Sound of Music'. Our halls are alive with kids and adults singing and/or humming 'raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens' or 'doe a deer, a female deer'...So FUN!
Beginning Tuesday, Kindergarten through Second Grade will be traveling to the community pool for water safety instruction. If you have any questions about specifics for your students, please reach out to your classroom teacher.
We officially have the first week of AK Star testing in the books! Fourth and fifth grade students have been working really hard this week to show what they know in reading and math. We're all so proud of their efforts. This week third grade will be testing Tuesday through Friday in reading and math, and fifth grade will take the science portion of the assessment.
Finally, Tuesday evening starting at 5:30, I will be hosting a meeting in the library around developing communication systems in response to safety concerns at school. This meeting will be the first step towards solidifying a communication plan that all families can count on if/when the school is responding to safety concerns. We will be engaging in a specific purpose-driven protocol, Chalk Talk, that will allow all participants voices to be heard in a safe, thoughtful manner. I have included the meeting agenda below. I look forward to starting this process together!

KIBSD Meal Program and Account Payments
If you want to deposit lunch money with a credit card through your PowerSchool parent portal,
please remember that you will need to access the online version.
You can find that link on the www.KIBSD.org website, under the FAMILIES tab.
KIBSD does not support the PowerSchool App, so you won't be able to pay fees that way.
Even though some student info is viewable on the app,
it does not connect to our PowerSchool lunch or activity fee accounts.
We are also always happy to accept cash or checks for student lunch accounts in the office.
Call us @907-486-7500 if you have questions or need any help with parent portal access.

Start the process and be ready to help out at school.
Once background checks are approved, they are valid for three years.
Just email volunteer@kibsd.org and let them know that you would like to volunteer at North Star.
The Human Resources department will walk you through the rest.
We look forward to seeing you!
