Coursework Reimbursement for High Ability Licensure

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is proud to announce additional funding opportunities for teachers and administrators seeking high ability, English learner, or dual language licensure. Any administrator who wishes to request course reimbursement for one or more teachers must complete the Request to Participate by March 9.

High Ability Licensure

Adding the High Ability Content Area to a Valid Teacher's License

In order to attain high ability licensure, coursework must be completed at an accredited university and a content area exam must be passed.

Once these criteria are met, a request to add a content area must be submitted to the Indiana Department of Education Office of Licensing.

Important Dates

Please keep these dates in mind as the second semester gets underway.


Final Reports

Notification will be sent to high ability coordinators upon review of each submitted 2018-2019 High Ability Grant Final Report.


Cash Requests

Funds can be requested by filling out a cash request form and emailing the form to highability@doe.in.gov. The entire allotment of the approved grant can be requested up front, and all funds must be requested prior to the deadline of June 1.

  • Please keep detailed records of each of your expenditures and ensure purchases are designed to enhance the educational experience of your high ability students.


Grant Amendments

A grant amendment should be requested if there is a significant change to the programming delineated in the approved grant and/or there is a desired change in any line item greater than 10 percent.


Grant Amendment Process

  1. Download the High Ability Grant Amendment Form.
  2. If requesting a budget amendment--> enter your revised budget.
  3. Provide the rationale for the programming and/or budget change.
  4. Send in the completed form for review.
  5. Wait for approval.

HIGH ABILITY PROFESSIONAL LEARNING and COLLABORATION

High Ability Education: Infusing Higher Order Thinking & Problem Solving in core Content Areas

This workshop, led by gifted education consultants, Dr. Ginny Burney and Dr. Kristie Speirs Neumeister, focuses on how to use instructional strategies and techniques to enrich core content with higher order thinking and problem solving. Purdue College of Science

Spring 2020 PD at Purdue: The ‘T’ in STEM: Exploring Technology in the Classroom

Friday, February 21 at Purdue's West Lafayette campus

Registration is open for a one-day Technology professional development. This PD will focus on the integration of technology into the classroom. Participants will learn how to use Vernier probeware, iPads, Google extensions, and a variety of programs. This workshop will be appropriate with whatever technology you have in the classroom including iPads, Chromebooks, and Laptops. Bring a device and see ways of using technology to help students learn, collect data, e-journal, and more. The registration fee is $85 and includes parking pass, continental breakfast, and lunch for each participating teacher.

AP Fridays at Purdue during the Spring 2020 semester.

March 6, 13; April 10, 17; May 1, 8 at Purdue West Lafayette Campus

The purpose of these lab sessions is to provide schools with the time and support needed to conduct suggested AP Labs in a guided-inquiry format on a college campus. Participation in one of the scheduled labs would help to ensure AP students have access to necessary resources outlined in the AP curriculum frameworks that are requirements of the AP Course Audit. The AP Lab sessions are FREE to any participating high school that registers to attend. Space is limited, so class registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

As we enter into the last month of winter and the days progressively get longer, we should take the time to reflect on the growth we have witnessed in our students and ourselves.
