SWE's Science Fair
Southwestern Elementary School held their annual Science Fair last week. The fourth and sixth graders individually submitted projects and were very knowledgeable about their work as they presented to the judges. The judges had some big decisions to make, as they called back many students from each grade level to interview a second or third time! The following are the results for the fourth graders. In third place was Autumn Collins, second place went to Angus Taggart, and first place was Ethan Sipes! In sixth grade, third place went to Grace Lee, second place was Libby Weinantz, and first place went to Kaden Barlow. Congratulations to Angus Taggart for second place overall and Ethan Sipes for winning first place overall! Congratulations, Spartan scientists!

Senior Recognition Ads in the 2019 Yearbook
As your students' time at Southwestern High School draws to a close, the yearbook would like to offer you one final chance to congratulate them and commemorate their time here. We are offering senior recognition ads in our 2019 yearbook. You can purchase an ad in a variety of sizes and personalize it for your student. You can design it yourself, either through the Josten's website or with Ms. Pfanschmidt, or you can send her photos and text and our yearbook students can do it for you. Ads can be personalized to just your student, or a group of parents can go in together and do an ad for a group of friends. This is a wonderful chance to offer congratulations and wishes for the future in a special keepsake that will be treasured for years to come. All ads are printed in full color. Contact Ms. Pfanschmidt at apfanschmidt@swshelby.k12.in.us for questions or more details.

You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, drugs, vandalism, or any safety issue you're concerned about through SafeSchools Alert. Every tip SafeSchools Alert receives about our district is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. And, tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer. Together, using SafeSchools Alert, we can make our district a safer place to work and learn! Thanks in advance for your support!

Send Us Your Spartan Special Moments!
Our community is extremely proud of the many accomplishments and positive stories involving the students, teachers, staff and programs at Southwestern Consolidated Schools of Shelby County that we may not always get to hear. If you would like to have your positive story shared with the Spartan Nation, please send the details to Mrs. Lindsay Chase, Curriculum and Communications Director. We would love to share your positive stories that include personal achievements of your child such as serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, earning awards or recognition in 4-H, earning badges in Girl Scouts, etc, etc. You may just see your story in a future edition of "The Spartan Special" or in The Shelbyville News! We want to celebrate our Spartans. You can't hide that Spartan pride!
