SWISD Seniors Encouraged to Save Seat with Alamo Promise Pep Rallies
CAST STEM students also attended the SWHS pep rally. “To me, the AlamoPROMISE helps me understand what’s next because I am the first in my family to go to college and that’s important to me," said CAST STEM student Ashley Hernandez.
Through AlamoPROMISE, the Alamo Colleges District is working to ensure access to education for all local students by providing for the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for up to three years to eligible graduating seniors from the San Antonio area.
“This program will help me prepare for my future and offer me more opportunities," said Southwest Legacy HS senior Henry Torres-Garcia.
AlamoPROMISE covers the cost of tuition and required fees at any of the five colleges of the Alamo Colleges District for up to three years (six consecutive semesters Fall and Spring semesters) or the completion of an associate degree or academic certificate, whichever comes first.

Promotion Ceremony Held for SWISD Police Officers
"We have a premiere law enforcement department because we have implemented a number of innovative initiatives to move our District and students forward. We have had a lot of success with our programs thanks to our officers and the leadership of Lt. Alvarez and Sgt. Arrendondo. They understand our philosophy here and they have embraced it, “ said SWISD Police Chief Richard Palomo.
Lieutenant Albert Alvarez has served in law enforcement for 20 years and is currently
assigned as the Administration/Operations Lieutenant for the Southwest ISD Police
Department. He began his career in criminal justice in 1995 while employed with the
Texas Department of Criminal Justice Division, serving as a correctional officer for seven years. Lieutenant Alvarez then made the transition into school-based law enforcement, a position that he has held for the past 18 years.
