Belle River Elementary News
Mrs. Moses’ Second Graders concluded their Character Trait Unit with a fun activity. The students walked around the room and wrote positive character traits on a piece of paper to represent each of their peers. It was a wonderful way to share their understanding of Character Traits while building each other up. Well done Sailors!
The winter weather sure was well received by the students at Belle River this week. We greatly appreciated all of the extra hard work and effort our custodial staff and maintenance crew put in to clear the way for winter fun at Belle River! They sailed through the drifts and piles for lots of fun and smiles!
Valentine’s Day Fun
The students at Belle River enjoyed spreading friendship last week during their classroom celebrations. Students traded cards and enjoyed activities, games, crafts and even science experiments with their classmates. It was a fun day and a great way to kick-off our Wellness Weekend!
Belle River Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Harriet Talaski is a First Grade Teacher at Belle River Elementary. This is her 35th year of teaching. She has spent twenty-five years teaching in the East China School District. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a major in Early Childhood. She has enjoyed teaching Kindergarten and First Grade throughout her career.
Harriet and her husband, Charlie, live in St.Clair where they raised two beautiful daughters, Allie and Rachael. Harriet is also a PROUD new Grandma to five-month old Blair who is the apple of her eye! Harriet just beams when you ask her about her new grandbaby and she is always prepared to share adorable pictures.
Harriet enjoys reading, baking, and spending time up north with family. Her favorite part of teaching is when students “light up” because they understand what is being taught. She loves hearing all of their stories and being an important part of teaching them to read. Thank you for your dedication and inspiration Mrs. Talaski!
Congratulations Mariner Drama!
If you had not heard the wonderful news.....Mariner Drama's One Act Drama, The 146 Point Flame not only made it to the state level of competition, not only placed FIRST in DIVISION 2 (out of six other state-qualifying, division 2 schools), but also was the TOP school overall, based on total points awarded, for BOTH division 1 and division 2 schools. This means out of the TWELVE (12) serious dramatic productions, our MC students are the very TOP in the state.
There was a second production, the comedy Leaving Iowa, that missed the state competition by just two (2) points. Otherwise, we would have had TWO shows make the STATE level of theater competition. We are so proud of the twenty-seven students that were a part of BOTH shows, working under very challenging circumstances with online rehearsals via Google Meet, wearing masks throughout our rehearsals at the PAC, and still remaining positive through many new rules and guidelines to keep them safe.
Taking first place was a tremendous accomplishment for our MCHS thespians to pull off, as some schools have entire sets of classes devoted to theater prep during the school day, have a larger population of students to pull from, and are a much more financially strong community that pours money into both their Arts and Athletic programs. Our students displayed that talent, heart, and passion are a match for any competitor.
Finally, over the past four weeks of competitions/exhibitions, many students have received INDIVIDUAL recognitions for their specific talents. Please, as you have a moment, scroll down the page linked below to see the many wonderful recognitions awarded to OUR students since January 21st. As I have been, you will be reminded of the TREMENDOUS talent we have in our district. http://marinerdrama2021.weebly.com/one-act-festivals-2021.html
