A Letter From the Principal
Dear MDE Families,
Although things look a little different, we are off to a great start this school year! I have enjoyed seeing all of the smiling faces as children enter the school each morning or engage with their teachers virtually. Educators everywhere recognize the important contributions parents make toward a child’s success in school. There is no question about it - success at school begins at home. One of the most important components of a good school is the partnership between the school and parents who work together for the best interest of children.
Throughout the year we will have many opportunities to develop that partnership in a wide variety of ways. Parents can join the PTO, attend parent involvement events or SAC virtually, read to their children and help in many other ways. Having parents actively involved in their child's education is one of our top priorities.
There will be a school newsletter that goes home every month to inform you about important upcoming events. Additionally, the SAC agenda and minutes are available on our website if you wish to view them.
The District and MDE value a safe, supportive and positive learning environment. We care about what our students think and about their experiences at school. This fall, we will ask our students how school staff can best support them socially and emotionally. Students, grades 3-12, will be taking a brief survey during the window of October 12 - October 23, 2020. These anonymous results will allow us to address overall school-wide trends. Additionally, family and community resources are available at http://www.collierschools.com/townhall. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
School and home can work together to build skills and knowledge, reinforce values, and develop a strong sense of self-worth. I look forward to working with each of you this school year in order to help your child be successful.
Sincerely,
Melissa Stamper

I look forward to seeing all the growth our students will make this year! If there is anything I can provide support with please let me know. Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Lefever
Counselors Corner October:
Happy October MDE families! We are off to a great start this school year and it has been a pleasure getting to know all our star students at Mike Davis. As we head into October the counseling department will be focusing on our character trait of Respect this month. Teaching students how to model and show respect at home, in the classroom, and with their peers. A great book to read at home with your children about respect is “The Golden Rule” by Ilene Cooper. After reading the book you could have a family conversation and ask your child what respect means to them? Create some family expectations about showing respect to one another.
We will also be celebrating Red Ribbon week and encouraging students to make healthy choices, and remain drug free! What a great opportunity to get active as a family! Take a walk together, enjoy a healthy family meal around the dinner table, or take in nature at one of our beautiful beaches as a family!
As always I’m here to support all students and families at Mike Davis! Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns.
