Create a short film worthy of a reel or film festival
Write, film, edit, and produce a short film worthy of a college reel and the film festival circuit. Professional filmmakers and educators including Andrew Peterson from Film North, Sundance filmmaker E.G. Bailey, Director Cynthia Uhrich, LA screenwriter Jodie Burke, Debbie Drew from Cutaway Productions, and cinematographer David McClellan will educate and mentor students in the process of creating an original film. With the exception of the first morning gathering, meetings will take place Sundays from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at ArtReach St Croix (224 N Fourth St, Stillwater). Each week will cover a different facet of film guiding students to completing their final project.
Week 1 - June 5: Concept to Screenplay (This meeting only from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM)
Week 2 - June 17: Screenplay to Revision
Week 3 - June 24: Storyboard and Production
Week 4 - July 1: Motion Capture
Week 5 - July 15: Edit 1 - Learn
Week 6 - July 22: Edit 2 - Show
Week 7 - July 29: Final Cut
Participants can choose to create either a documentary or a narrative film. Students will be expected to work on their project outside of meeting times and will receive feedback throughout the process. The final film will be considered in the StoryArk Short Film Competition as juried by the professional filmmakers with a $100 prize to the winner. The film will also enjoy a public screening at the StoryArk Festival the evening of August 1 at the Phipps Center for the Arts.
StoryArk is pleased to collaborate with Cutaway, Stillwater Area High School’s student production company, to make this project possible.
