Guest Speakers at MJH
Morales Junior High students were visited by guest speakers Lee Rouson and Fleceia Comeaux of USA Youth Outreach on Monday, August 26. USA Youth Outreach is dedicated to reaching the youth of America with a message of hope.
Fleceia Comeaux’s message to MJH female students was encouraging and inspiring. With a strong message of, “I am who I believe I am!”
Lee Rouson’s message to MJH male students was to always remain persistent in achieving goals. If you don’t have goals for yourself get some, “Move your chain!”
These great speakers were made possible by the generosity of Wright Friday.

Diez y Seis de Septiembre
On the church steps in the town of Dolores Hidalgo, Father Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla read the Gritto de Hidalgo (or "Call of Hidalgo") in 1810.
That day, September 16 (Diez y Seis de Septiembre), Father Hidalgo launched the Mexican War of Independence against Spain. After the declaration, Hidalgo and his followers set out to spread the word to nearby San Miguel de Allende. Hidalgo affixed an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe to a staff, bringing the Virgin to symbolize the Mexican liberation movement.
The struggle against Spain centered around the rights of the Criollos (or "Creoles") who were born in the New World with Spanish ancestry, but not given the privilege of those born in Europe. Following the war, those born in Europe were expelled from Mexico.
Another important celebration which originated in Mexico and is observed extensively in Texas is the Fiesta of the Virgin of Guadalupe, held on December 12. The important religious holiday honors Juan Diego's sighting of the Virgin in 1531 with processions, offerings and church services. (houstonculture.org)
9/11, Sept. 11, 2001 - 18th Anniversary
On Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, members of the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners as part of a series of coordinated attacks against targets in the United States. The Twin Towers in New York City were hit by one plane each, American Airlines Flight 11 and Flight 175, while American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, is thought to have been headed for the White House, but passengers overtook the hijackers and the plane crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania.
More than 3,000 people lost their lives during what the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil to date. Property and infrastructure damage amounted to over $10 billion. The attack is thought to have been ordered by Osama bin Laden, who was finally located and killed in Pakistan by U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six in May 2011. The 9/11 Memorial Museum occupies the sites where the Twin Towers once stood. (liveabout.com)
Students at Morales Junior High will observe a moment of silence for all the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks. Teachers across campus will incorporate this topic from history into lesson across the curriculum. Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss this topic with their students to help them understand its relevance in today's world.
