Parent Organizations at Peirce
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
PAC sends these Panther Post emails every month to share events and resources for parents! PAC provides support to parents through workshops, resources, communications, and other training/education opportunities. In the past PAC has offered math workshops for parents, "Behind the Scenes" tours of IB classrooms, workshops on restorative practices, and more. This year, PAC hopes to create a "Parent Room" to provide a welcoming space for Peirce's parents.
- WHO/WHEN/WHERE: PAC is open to all parents/caregivers at Peirce, and there is Spanish real-time translation provided at all PAC meetings and workshops. PAC meets one Friday a month in the Fieldhouse at 8:15. Next meeting is Friday 9/20! Check Peirce's calendar to confirm dates throughout the year.
Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC)
BAC has informative meetings regarding academic improvement of bilingual students and work to increase parental involvement at Peirce School. BAC members also attend meetings that take place in other schools throughout the year regarding important updates in bilingual education.
- WHO/WHEN/WHERE: BAC is open to all parents/guardians of children who are enrolled in the bilingual program. BAC meets one Friday a month in the Fieldhouse at 8:15. Next meeting is Friday 9/27! Check Peirce's calendar to confirm dates throughout the year.
Peirce Service Organization (PSO)
NEXT PSO MEETING IS TOMORROW 9/13 AT 8:15 IN THE FIELDHOUSE!
The mission of the Peirce Service Organization (PSO) is to foster connection and collaboration amongst the members of the Peirce community by planning events and activities throughout the school year to support the faculty, students, and families of Peirce. The PSO also solicits volunteers to carry out numerous activities for Peirce families to enjoy. We encourage all Peirce parents/guardians to get involved with the school and ask that parents volunteer service hours throughout the year.
- WHO/WHEN/WHERE: PSO is open to all Peirce parents/caregivers. PSO meets one Friday a month in the Fieldhouse at 8:15. The next meeting is THIS FRIDAY 9/13!! Check Peirce's calendar to confirm dates throughout the year.
Friends of Peirce (FOP)
Friends of Peirce is the parent-led fundraising organization for Peirce. We're a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to maximize the potential of Peirce students to achieve their dreams by experiencing a world class primary education within the Chicago Public School system. Friends of Peirce works in partnership with all the Peirce parent organizations, and provides parent-led fundraising capabilities.
- WHO/WHEN/WHERE: FOP is open to all Peirce parents/caregivers. PSO typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm. The next meeting is on October 15! Check Peirce's calendar to confirm dates throughout the year.
Local School Council (LSC)
LSCs are the policy-making body of CPS schools. LSCs connect parents with educators to better align family and community engagement goals to student achievement; with community members to help leverage community resources for the school; and with other parents to share best practices and success stories. LSC responsibilities include evaluating the performance of the principal, approving the principal contract, approving the school's Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP) and monitoring its progress, and approving the school's budget.
- WHO/WHEN/WHERE: LSC representatives are elected and include parents, teachers, and community members. Meetings are open to the public. The LSC generally meets on the third Thursday of the month at 6pm in the Gymnatorium. The next meeting is on Wednesday 9/19! Check Peirce's calendar to confirm dates throughout the year.
