Broad Meadows Middle School Community Update 8.28.2023 - Welcome Back!
We hope that our whole Broad Meadows community has enjoyed a relaxing summer and that you still have a few days of summer fun planned before the calendar turns to September. That said, my hope is to provide you with some initial information as we look ahead to the start of the school year.
The staff of the Broad Meadows Middle School could not be more excited to welcome back our students to the 2023-2024 school year. The custodial and maintenance teams have been working hard over the summer months to prepare the school for our return and as always, we are grateful for their work. We also want to offer a special greeting to all of our new students and families as they join our school community.
This year, we will be using the Smore program to send out weekly Broad Meadows Community Update Newsletters. The Smore program offers wonderful translation options in over 20 languages (see translation button at top of newsletter) and is easily accessible from mobile devices. We hope that this weekly communication offers our families a great way to stay connected to our school.

First Day of School
A friendly reminder that the first day of school is on Wednesday, September 6th and will run as a full day from 8:15 AM to 2:30 PM. At 8:15 AM we will invite our 7th and 8th graders into the building followed by our 6th graders. All students will enter through our main door. Grade 7 and 8 students will report directly to home base and students in grade 6 will report to our school auditorium for a welcome assembly. Please remember that parents and guardians are not allowed in the school building during school hours except by appointment. Support staff will be on hand at our main entrance to support students as needed.
During the first week of school students will receive several forms that need to be signed and returned to homebase teachers. We thank you in advance for supporting your student in reviewing and returning these forms. They are:
1)QPS Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and BMMS Student /Family Handbook Permission Form
2) Student Chromebook Consent Form
3) Chromebook Device Agreement Form (For 6th grade students and students new to QPS)
4) Student Health Information Update Form
The school supply lists were sent out earlier in the summer by email and are also available on the Broad Meadows Middle School website under “Recent News” We have provided the link below for the site. Please note that students who attend the LDC program only need the supplies from the page titled BMMS Language Development Classrooms (LDC). School supply list link
Students who are entering the 7th and 8th grade are expected to bring their QPS issued Chromebooks and chargers with them on the first day of school regardless of the condition. Students who are entering 6th grade and students new to the Quincy Public Schools will be issued a Chromebook during the first week of the school year. In order to receive a Chromebook, students must have a Chromebook Agreement Form signed by a parent/guardian and returned to their home base teacher. Agreement forms will be sent home with students during the first week of the school year.
PTO Update ~ 2023-2024 School Year
All PTO meetings will take place in person at the Broad Meadows Middle School with a Zoom link available to join remotely. The Zoom link to all meetings will be sent out in upcoming Community Newsletters and reminders will be posted on the PTO Facebook page. Please also visit the PTO Welcome Table at Open House on September 14th for more information about how to support our PTO this year. As we were last year, we are also interested in finding a local business to serve as a community partner for the school. If you are aware of a local business who would be interested in forming a partnership, please ask them to contact the school.
PTO Meeting Dates:
Health Office Update
Ms. Bonczar will be available at Broad Meadows Middle School on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 to answer any questions related to medical concerns and also to receive student medication that needs to be given at school. Please remember that a doctor's order must accompany all medication that needs to be given during the school day.
School Picture Day
Save the Date - students will have their picture day on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 during the school day. More information about purchasing photos will be provided in the upcoming days.
Emergency Procedure Drills
The safety and security of our students, staff and overall school community are a top priority at Broad Meadows Middle School. To that end, we will be participating in 4 fire drills and 2 full emergency procedure drills (including fire drill, lockdown drill and reverse evacuation drill) during the school year. Our first fire drill will be held during the first week of school. Home base teachers will review all safety procedures with students the first day of school to ensure that they are comfortable with them.
Students are given the opportunity to receive breakfast, lunch and/or milk as part of their daily schedule. Breakfast and lunch will be free for all students again this year and snack will be available for purchase at all lunches. Please click here for the Quincy Public Schools Food Services website which will include weekly menus as well as nutrition information. Snack prices vary between $1.00 and $2.00.
Breakfast is available for all students beginning at 7:45 AM. Any students interested in joining us for breakfast are welcome to enter the building through the side cafeteria door.
If your child is going to be absent, please call our main school line and select option 6 from the main menu or email our school secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In order for an absence to be considered excused, we must receive a note from a medical provider with a reason for the absence and the date or dates that should be excused.
MBTA student "Charlie Cards" will be distributed to students who would like them on the first day of school during lunches. They will also be available in the main office by request. MBTA Charlie Cards can be used by students on the MBTA busses each day for a reduced fare. Students and families must go online to the MBTA website to add value to the card if they would like to use it. Bus fares for MBTA busses can be paid using cash or a Charlie Card.
