Utensils
A Utensil is a instrument or vessel commonly used in a kitchen.
Some baking utensils include:
- Pastry Brush- Which is a tool used to glaze pastries with egg wash or milk, or for brushing pastries with melted butter.
- Rolling Pin- is used to roll out types of doughs and icing.
- Rubber Spatula- is used to skim around the sides of mixing bowls.
- Spoons- used for beating cake mixes and metal spoons are handy for folding flour and whisked egg whites.
- Skewer helps determine whether your cake is cooked.
- Whisk- it gives volume and aerates food mixes.
Measuring Tools
A measuring tool is tools that you use too get an accurate amount of what you need into them.
Some measuring tools include:
- Measuring Jug- Essential for getting measuring quantities right.
- Scales- Necessary for measuring out ingredients.
- Measuring Spoon- Used to measure little amounts of things.
Baking Equipment
Baking equipment can include:
- Baking Parchment- Used for lining cake tins and baking trays.
- Baking Tins- Absorbs heat and makes sides of the cake dark.
- Cooling Rack- Helps the air circulate around your freshly baked cake.
- Dredger/Shaker- Useful for lightly dusting flour and sugar when rolling out dough.
- Food Mixer- Essential for cake making and saves time.
- Food Processor- Can be used for many cake recipes and is good for rubbing fat into flour.
Baking Decoration
Baking tools that help you decorate cakes or pastries.
Some Decorating tools include:
- Icing Smoother- Hand tool for decorating, helps you give your icing a professional finish.
- Cutters- Allows you to create simple but effective cake decorations.
- Marzipan Spacers- Used to decorate cake, makes you achieve an even thickness.
- Palette Knife- Used for smoothing icing or cake fillings.
Most of these examples of baking equipment are essential for a good baking experience. Without some of these tools it would be pointless to try and bake, not just cakes, but other pastries too!
