A Hint of Color

After learning about how white light can be separated in to the colors of the spectrum; a.k.a. Roy G. Biv, the students painted rainbows. Students have been exploring the genre of poetry, and learning more about figurative language. They then wrote wrote descriptive similes to help paint vivid pictures in the reader's mind. We were inspired after reading mentor texts like, Red Sings From Treetops, and Hailstones and Halibut Bones.

Our rainbow theme carried over to math where students were learning about common products. The created "factor rainbows" for a self-selected product.

Ironically, after all of our rainbow discussions, many students were able to see a "real" rainbow on St. Patrick's Day.

The Upcoming Testing...

Many of you are aware that next week our students will be taking The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA). Our scheduled dates for testing are:

Reading and Language Sections will be the week of April 12th

Tuesday-Section I in the morning 9:15

Wednesday-Section II 9:15

Thursday-Section III 9:15

Friday Section IV 9:15

Math will be the week of April 19th

Tuesday-Section I in the morning 9:15

Wednesday-Section II 9:15

Thursday-Section III 9:15

Make-up testing will be conducted during non-testing times, according to the test coordinators schedule. We are asking for your support on the home front. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep. Research shows this does have a significant impact on a child’s ability to maintain focus. This same correlation has been linked to eating breakfast, so we also ask that your child have a nutritious breakfast each morning. Children will continue having snack daily. Please send in nutritious snacks. We do have a class supply of pencils; however, this supply is not endless, and they do not sharpen the best. As always, students will be permitted to chew gum or suck on a mint during testing. You are welcome to send in a stash of gum for your child, but I will have plenty on hand, too. Thank you for your continued help and support.
