Bay Lane Information
Lock Down Drill:
In cooperation with the Muskego Police Department we practiced our first Lock Down Drill on November 16. All Wisconsin public schools are required to facilitate two lock down drills per school year in order to be better prepared to respond if an intruder were to enter a school building. Last year the Muskego-Norway School District changed our customary procedure (shelter silently in place) and we now facilitate a discussion over the PA system, focusing on alerting others, determining escape routes, blocking doorways and shielding students and staff in the event of an intruder. Our goal is to ensure the safety of our students. Thank you for your continued support.
Report Card Information:
Report cards will be going home with students on December 12. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the school office or your child's teacher.PTO Update:
The birthday table has been moved to December 19. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and we are doing our best to be as consistent as possible. However, as a result of school schedules there has been some need for rescheduling. We ask for flexibility and understanding as we try our best to accommodate all the different schedules. Please see more information in the PTO section below!
Parent Satisifation Survey
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last week we sent out the Parent Satisifaction Survey. Currently, we have had 151 people fill out the survey! We would love to have 100%! We want your feedback, please take a minute to fill it out. The survey will be open until December 12.
Our district is on a continuous journey to make our schools the best places for students to learn, staff to work, and parents to send their children for a good education. In this effort, we appreciate your support. It is important to gather feedback from you to celebrate successes and identify areas for growth. Please take a few minutes and complete this Parent Satisfaction Survey to help provide this feedback.
Once the survey is complete, the results will be analyzed by an outside organization. The data from the survey will be sent to each school and the Superintendent. Then, the results of the survey will be shared with parents and the community.
The survey can be accessed online at: MNSD Parent Satisfaction SurveySurvey
Thank you for interest in and support of your child's education with us. Please contact sara.stanley@muskegonorway.org if you have any questions concerning the survey.
Staying In for Recess
It's Cold Outside!
The warm fall days are coming to an end. The temperature on the thermometer is falling and we want to ensure our students are prepared for the upcoming weather changes.
Please make sure your little ones are dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Students will be going outside unless the wind chill is below 0°, to allow them time for fresh air, exercise and fun! It is a great idea to keep an extra pair of socks and mittens in a pocket of their backpack in case the first pair gets wet during recess.
When snow is on the ground, please help students remember to have boots and snow pants with them at school. We also ask that students take these items home with them on the weekends to be washed. Thank you for your support.
Vision Screening
If you have a child in KDG, 1st or 3rd grade you should have received a blue form regarding a Vision Screening for all students in these grades that will take place on Tuesday, December 11th beginning at 9:00 a.m. here at Bay Lane Elementary. This is a complimentary service provided at no charge by certified screeners from Prevent Blindness Wisconsin.
This vision screening is meant to help identify children who are at high-risk for common eye problems but does NOT replace an eye exam and does NOT check for all conditions. If your child does not pass, you should schedule a complete eye exam for them. If there are concerns, you will be contacted by our District Nurse accordingly.
AS STATED ON THE FORM, If you do not wish to have your child participate, you should complete the bottom portion of the blue form and check THE NO BOX. The only students who will not take part in this screening in KDG, 1st or 3rd grade are those who return the bottom of the blue form and did check the NO box. If you would like your child to be screened, no action is necessary.
Should you have any questions in this regard, please feel free to contact the office at 262-971-1810 Ext. 6240.
Attendance
From the Compulsory Attendance Law in Wisconsin:
118.15(3)(c)(c) Any child excused in writing by his or her parent or guardian before the absence. The school board shall require a child excused under this paragraph to complete any course work missed during the absence. A child may not be excused for more than 10 days in a school year under this paragraph.
DId you know that if you excused your child for 10 days of school each year, by the time they graduated from high school, they would have missed 140 days? That is 78% of an entire school year.IMPORTANT SCHOOL DATES!

School Lunch and Recess Schedule and Menu
A message from food service:
Please make sure when sending in money with your child for hot lunch to clearly mark the students name in the "memo section" of the check or if sending cash write students name on the envelope. This ensures the money goes into the family account. Also, when sending money, please discuss with your child the importance of turning funds in right away rather than being held in backpacks, lockers, or folders.
Bay Lane Elementary Staff
Carrie Hilgers
My name is Carrie Hilgers and I have been teaching art for 12 years, the last 10 here in the Muskego Norway School District. Most recently, I was at Tess Corners and now I'm so excited to be at Bay Lane.
I live in Wauwatosa with my husband and three amazing children - Henry (10) Hattie (8) and Violet (6). We love spending our free time doing typical family things such as ice skating, playing baseball, going to the theater and making frequent visits to the public museum and zoo. In my spare time I like to draw, paint, sew and do other crafty things for my house and kids.
Teaching art brings me great joy and I love working with your children every day!
Kerry Tylenda
My name is Ms. Tylenda and I am from Brown Deer, WI. I have always been an explorer and adventure seeker. I love traveling, hiking, bird watching, teaching, reading and discussing books, and making art! I spend most of her time with my tiny-yet-fierce daughter and my partner. Above all, I value kindness and learning, and try to share those values with every person I meet.
