Dr. Anderson's Update
Dear RMA Colleagues,
I am excited to welcome you back to the 2022 -2023 school year! During the summer, I hope that you took time for yourself to do the things you enjoy and that you are feeling rejuvenated and ready to provide our students with an educational and uplifting year. For those of you who work throughout the summer, I want to thank you. I know you have had a productive summer and are ready for an incredible school year. As this is my fourth year as your Superintendent, I am committed to staying the course we have set for ourselves and continuing to provide stability as we change and grow as a district. The overarching focus this year is “Relationships Matter.” You will hear me addressing this theme throughout the year as we explore what it means, how it applies to our work, and what we plan to achieve by building relationships with one another, our students, community, and families.
We are welcoming many new staff members to RMA Public Schools this fall. Whether you are in a new leadership position or have joined or moved to a new school, I wish you all a successful and exciting school year at RMA! Please help me formally welcome and congratulate the following individuals on their school leadership positions:
• Derrick Smith, Principal, RMA Killeen
• Patrick Campbell, Principal, RMA Houston
• Dr. Heidi Lambert, Director of Special Populations
• Gilbert Morales, Special Education Instructional Coordinator
• Stacy Brown, Counseling Coordinator
• Ms. Ulelia Childs, District Instructional Coordinator
I look forward to working with all of our staff this year and making RMA the best choice for our students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Armard Anderson

Re: Closed and Locked Doors Directive
With increased awareness of safety and security inside our schools, we are making every effort to enhance security protocols at all of our campuses to better protect students and staff. With the increased focus on school safety, this administrative directive concerning our “closed and locked door mandate” is in effect immediately at every campus. All doors leading to student occupied spaces and instructional classrooms must remain closed and locked during the school day. This is a requirement by the State of Texas and RMA Public Schools. In the event that a lock or door malfunctions or does not work properly, staff must report the issue to the campus principal immediately.
The safety and security of our students is our top priority. Failure to comply with this mandate may result in disciplinary action.
In addition to the Closed and Locked Door Mandate, RMA Public Schools has also implemented the following measures of safety and security for students and staff:
• All of our campus outside doors must remain closed and locked to prevent unauthorized campus access.
• Doors leading to instructional classrooms or student occupied spaces must be closed and locked during school hours.
• All locks that do not function properly must be reported immediately.
• Video entrance systems are installed at every RMA campus.
• We have a School Resource Officer on every campus.
• Upon arrival on campus all students must go through a metal detector before being permitted to class.
• We have partnered with law enforcement to develop emergency plans, which include active shooter and hostage situations.
• We have added policies for violence prevention and intervention.
We all have a role to play in making every RMA campus safe. Your cooperation in making safety a priority is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dr. Armard Anderson

RMA is up for a Child Nutrition Program Administrative Review (AR) in 22-23
The AR is designed to conduct specified parts of the review off-site and others on-site. TDA will evaluate compliance with the following program requirements in the Critical and General Areas of Review which include: Meal Access and Reimbursement, Meal Pattern & Nutritional Quality, Resource Management, General Program Compliance and the operation of any other applicable SNP federal programs.
The AR begins approximately 12 weeks prior to TDA doing an on-site review of program operations with the off-site portion of the review. The review is risk based, gathering information and documentation samples during the off-site review and then conducting a more targeted review on-site. CE Staff will be asked to utilize the Texas Unified Nutrition Programs System (TX-UNPS) when providing written responses to questions and uploading requested documentation.
To prepare for the AR, please ensure your campus has a Liberty for All Poster (green Statue of Liberty poster) and civil rights training has been completed for the registrar, SCL, and any other staff that monitor students will they eat breakfast.
