Cohort Details for Washington Elementary
I wanted to share some information as it specifically relates to Washington. There has been so much district communication, information and resources shared over the past month that I have held off on sending specific information about Washington. I hope it has allowed you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with our district's reopening plan and details. With that being said, I know many families are still working on trying to understand the details for a variety of topics. One topic that I believe needs further explanation is how cohorting all of our families has effected our enrollment and staffing for each grade.
The video below is about a 12minute voiced over presentation so you can view it with some explanation. I hope it clarifies and possibly even simplifies how our Washington staff will be divided to teach the families who chose the Phased Into Learning (PIL) and Tosa Connected (TC) pathways. Every elementary school is navigating something a little differently depending on enrollment and possible staffing changes.

Teacher Assignments
Dear Families,
This week you will receive further information from district communication regarding classroom teacher assignments. As you may recall, class placements were sent out earlier this summer with the hopes that we wouldn’t have to make too many adjustments down the road. Of course, this has not been a typical summer! Given a variety of items, including, but not limited to, the different reopening plans, family choice, cohorting all of our families and district staffing implications, we’ve had to make some adjustments to our class placements.
I am hopeful there will be communication this evening or Tuesday about how to access teacher placement in Infinite Campus. You'll be able to confirm once again cohort placement and teacher placement. Please be aware that your child may have been moved into a classroom different from the one they were placed in earlier this summer. We feel that these new placements will provide the most positive and productive educational experience for your child and most effectively take into consideration:
- Classroom diversity
- Students’ development and strengths
- Matching students needs to the strengths of our teaching staff
- Maintaining small class sizes
- And most importantly, the best interests of your child
As always, thank you for your continuing patience and support in the efforts of all the staff at Washington School.
Transitioning back to school
Welcome Back to School Presentation
Wednesday, September 2nd - I'll be sending home a Welcome Back to School presentation that will include how our procedures and typical daily routines will be adjusted in hopes to provide the safest return to school. There will be some short videos and photos that I hope will familiarize students and families with some basics about what to expect for the start of the year:
- Arrival/Dismissal
- Hygiene in the school
- Classroom setup
- Hallways and foot traffic
- Lunch
- Recess and playground
- Bathrooms
- Illness protocols
Grade Level Teacher & Staff Welcome Back Videos
On Thursday, September 3rd, I'll be sharing a collection of teacher and staff welcome back videos that will introduce all of our staff members and allow students a chance to see their child(ren)'s teacher before the start of the school year.
Curbside Pickup - 1st Day School Supply Pickup, Student Belongings (from last spring) and student chromebook pickup
School supply kit pickup AND/OR Student Personal Belonging Pick Up (from last spring)
Several families ordered a school supply kit from 1st Day School Supply Kits prior to choosing a learning option. Some of these students may not be in school to start the year and have requested to pick up these supply kits before the start of the school year.
IF your child is returning to Washington in the Phased Into Learning (PIL), you do not need to do anything.
- School supply kits and all student personal belongings will be moved from your child(ren)'s previous year classroom to your child(ren)'s new classroom. You do not need to do anything and we will plan on sending home items with your child(ren)that cannot be stored at Washington over the first two weeks of school.
- Same applies to chromebooks. All students returning in the Phased Into Learning (PIL) should bring their chromebook to school if one was already checked out to them in the spring/summer. Otherwise, we will provide all students with a chromebook when they are here during the first week of school.
- We are offering curbside pickup for these items. We ask that all families use our Hug & Go lane on 67th street. We will have multiple staff members outside to assist. Please stay in your car and items will be delivered to the car.
- Wednesday, September 2nd 3:00-5:00pm
- Friday, September 4th 1-3pm
If you have specific questions about personal belonging or school supply kit pickup, please contact Brenda Hill-Gordon at 414-773-1806
