Week 8

We are in the homestretch of the first part of our semester and are working in week 8! This week we are continuing with Unit 4, Las Viviendas. Students had 2 assignments due this past Monday and have a Unit 4 project due this Thursday, March 21. Please encourage your student to start working on this project and contact me if they have questions or need ideas.

NCVPS does not have Spring Break. If your student's school has Spring Break, he or she is still expected to login daily and complete the week's assignments for this class. Students are also encouraged to work ahead. Please speak with your student and make sure that he/she is getting all assignments completed!

Options for Unit 4 project due this Thursday, March 21

Students have 2 options for Unit 4 project:

1. You need to design a government plan (written presentation only-no audio) to improve the conditions of homes in Ecuador.

2. You can do a virtual tour (audio only) of 3 homes in Ecuador that are for sale-you are the real estate agent!

Missing/Incomplete Assignments

Pease remember that any incomplete/missing assignments are calculated as 0s. If a student is behind, any work that should be done (or was missed/skipped) is being calculated as a 0 and greatly brings down his/her current average. I put 0s in every week for the previously due work. This is one of the reasons that it is SO important for students to stay on track (or ahead), using the Schedule of Assignments. Once the assignment is completed, the new grade will override the 0, so the 0 is gone. If you or your student have ANY questions about grades/feedback, etc., please let me know! I encourage you to be a CANVAS observer and check your student's grades. Please encourage students to get those assignments completed and to contact me if they have questions.

What is the Culture Cafe?

The Culture Cafe is an opportunity for students to receive extra credit for his/her grade. Students can attend any Culture Cafe that has to do with culture of any country. Students can go to their Home page on Canvas and click on the icon, The Culture Cafe for a detailed list of future Culture Cafe sessions and how to log into the session. After attending a Culture Cafe session, students will complete a reflection about the class and submit it for extra credit. Below is information about the next Culture Cafes that are offered.

Being a CANVAS observer in our class!

Parents and facilitators can now download the Canvas Parent app in both the iTunes and Google Playstores

Parents and facilitators will need student login information to set up their parent accounts. This will have to come from the school. NCVPS cannot supply login credentials to parents or facilitators. Check with your school's e-learning advisor (ELA).

The Canvas Parent app is designed to provide visibility into a student's progress at a glance. Canvas Parent allows both parents and facilitators to:

  • View assignment descriptions and due dates
  • Set reminders for assignments
  • View assignment grades
  • View course grades
  • Set grade alerts
  • View course announcements
